And most of us are also taking him at his word that his off season training was affected
I'm not so sure people are taking him at his word....because these were his words....

"I had a good summer. It was a little different — I had to train around my knee injury but I feel great," said Pettersson. "It's like a nagging injury, it doesn't want to go away easily, but we figured out a way to work around it."

In other words, the tendinitis is still there for Pettersson but he and the medical staff he worked with have ways of managing it. He did not seem overly worried about the injury or that it would hold him back in any way.

"I don't feel any pain right now or after [practice]," he said. "It's not a big thing."

Well it’s evident his confidence is shot right now but we don’t know the cause. Is it because his body is just not there and he can’t do the things he want or is it because he is over thinking things.
I think the team most likely mismanaged the crap out of this, that I feel confident about.
I know people are concerned but I feel like he has shown to be a great player, I look at things in the longer term. Getting rid of him would be a super short term solution and we’ll 100% regret it especially if he has a good offseason and come back looking like a 100 pt player on a different team.
I personally don't know if it was mismanaged or not....the Canucks medical staff doesn't hold a lot of faith with me, but I think EP is a guy who would say something if he had an injury that needed attention.

I think there is risk on both sides of the equation...trading or keeping. I'd prefer to keep him if I knew he was going to get back to his game in his prime years, but the red flags are too hard to ignore for me.

Medical staff is shit. You happy? Doesn't change anything.
You referenced them as an authority on the situation, and took my opinion that medical staff is definitely not a reliable authority as proof of how out to lunch anyone defending EP is so yeah, thanks for agreeing with me in that end on that.

And for the record EP isn't getting a pass from me. He needs to figure it out. I think the injury was the origin of the problem last year, and that having his offseason hampered was a big part of the problem for this year, but I am also sure that the injury is not the only problem at this point. It would be nearly impossible to slump for a year, get dumped on by fans, mgmt and even some of your own teammates the entire time, and not develop some other problems along the way. It's up to him to move past whatever off ice stuff is causing problems, whatever that may be.

Those pesky fans.

I feel like he is the type to play through injury because hockey player

On Dom's model living the canucks so much, Drance has touched on this many times. The model still looks at Demko, EP, Miller (before the trade) etc as if they were the players they were last year and isn't accounting for the drop off.

On Pettersson compared to McDavid and Draisaitl... you know that was trolling to rile up Oilers fans right?

Seemingly you definitely aren't taking him at his word.

The point is he talks both about being great, and the injury not going away... then goes on to talk about it being... different, and having to train around it.

with the break coming up it would be beneficial for those who need it. healing bumps and bruises besides quinn hughes. i think mgmnt is gonna pull a rabbit out of their hats again come trade deadline or before. boeser is for sure gone. and a couple of more ufas. hopefully this offseason cnaucks find some veterantype guys for the locckerrom to lighten the room when it gets tough and give some advices to the younger players. make a mistake its okay. go back out there and keep trying . not the ones that screams and yells.

Id still love to see a combo of Olivier & Frederic brought in for the bottom 6.

If they move Boeser I could see it being another deal where they get some futures & then try and flip that for something else

Watching the games now feels weird in a good way. Like a start of a new season. Such a distant memory since the clown car departed with Heinen and VD in it.
I know d was such a big priority that I almost forgot how bad Heinen was at winning battles. It seemed like he lost 90% of them, and if ever he ended up with the puck he'd turn it over. What a difference so far with a guy like Drew O'Connor.

Canucks (and 12 other teams) scouting EDM/CHI tonight
I wonder if Chicago would offer something silly for an extended Boeser... The number of centers they drafted in the first round last couple of years but they don't have room for all of them. plus Kyle Davidson is done... Moore? Nazer? Boisvert?

I could see NYI maybe taking a flier on Boeser to reunite him with Horvat.
A conditional trade based on whether they sign Boeser and/or win a playoff round.
Maybe even add something to try to get next year's first rounder.
If not a high draft pick and/or a prospect, Cole Eiserman?

EP40 still has his reputation and past scoring management can lean on but now at a reduced rate.
Talking about what he has done and what he might do in the future doesn't change the facts that for the last 100' games he is a 60-70 point player here and he has all that pressure now to be THE MAN.
Buffalo has been rumored for him for quite awhile, so that means it won't be them but then if, if, if, Cozens has to be in those talks.
Cozen, Samuelsson and picks?
The Devils might call but Silayev should be in those one's as well, he would be a Plan B when Hughes signs there so apart from his brothers he would also have EP40 there and they will have cap space for both even if they give QH 18 mil a season.
EP40 for Silayev, Nemec and a pick. Then move Nemec and the pick for another budding center/winger, or not.
EP40 is a featured player in Columbus as well but they don't have a really young player the caliber of Silyaev but they do have some young centers, Voronkov and Marchenkov would be ideal and a stretch but Marchenkov might be replaced with Chinakhov, they also have Sillinger and Johnson, meh, but with picks ok.
Carolina might even swing back around depending on Rantenen

Those two ideas/thoughts would open up a huge amount of cap space for management to use for big game hunting combined with added assets and picks. The team would be much younger, faster and less expensive.

Lankinen or Demko, there are more than a half dozen teams that would make a real decent offer for either at the TDL

Ya, the Boeser whine, "who is going to score 40 goals" well lets just look at the last 3 seasons, there was Horvat, gone, then Kuzmenko, gone but both replaced with now Boeser so there will be another or maybe 2 or 3 scoring 30 instead.
IMO a 29 yr old Boeser at 8+ mil a season for essentially a complimentary player albeit a higher scoring threat is too much. He has put in his time here and needs to be given his "reset" with another team, he has earned it.

Make the moves to prepare when or if Hughes decides to go play with his brothers for a Stanley Cup. That team is already much, much closer than the Canucks will be in 2 years. Their opposition in their division and in the east is declining whereas in the west more teams are on the rise. An easier path for the devils and if they get Quinn there as well, quite possibly enough to go over the top. And Hamilton's 9 mil comes off the books the same year of Quinn's next contract plus the cap increases. That is one reason to go after Silayev now. He is a stud in the KHL at 19 yrs old and played there for 3 years already. Just need another Russian speaker to help him.

Tocchet would resign, too many Euro's and young players. He would strangle their creativity and skill to make them fit in his box and they would be too young to resist until it was too late. Allvin hasn't the backbone to stand up to Tocchet IMO.

Homie do you follow other teams?

Sabres fans are pretty down on Cozens and wish they could give Samuelsson away for free.

I'm sure I'm one of the louder and more prominent "Keep Petey" enthusiasts on these boards but even if I wasn't, that's a Barry Pederson return.

Not for the EP40 now.
And like the Miller trade I think it would be a good thing for all players.

While I didn't additional any players coming back there would be more than just those two, maybe an unprotected 1rst either this year or next.

One way to view EP40 right now is they could have two players each getting equaling his points totals for less money and if the redundancy of if one gets hurt there is other. So more spread out scoring.

With the pressure on him to perform now thanks to Allvin's statements alone never mind a load of fans that think the wrong guy left.
I do think EP40 will do better elsewhere. Most players after Tocchet do seem to be much better.
