Just because a player is slotted into a spot doesn't mean that they are compared to centers in the rest the rest of the league. Right now center rankings are JTM - 44th EP -58th here. Not 1rst line center really. But their past does have value close to their contracts.
If Hughes keeps playing the way he is he could be offered closer to 18 mil by NJD and his brothers.
We get a chance to see two of the brothers play together at the four nations, watch their interactions because that might shine a glimmer of the future or his desires.

Is the dressing room that fractured that the players didn't realize that is was Karlsson's first career goal? It seems as if that is something teammates really are on top off normally.

It's insane that people don't realize just because they call him a 1C or we have in the line up as a 1C he simply is not playing like one right now.
He's worth 7 M MAX right now. Imagine gloating that a player on the team went from a horrendous cap hit to a really terrible one.
I suppose for some people thats progress.
With the cap news it's pretty comical that the Rangers were asking for retention on Miller.

That's a little optimistic. Everyone will have more money to spend. There are 29 teams spending more than $80m this season and I don't think that's going to change a lot.
If Pettersson can get near to his previous form, his contract is going to be an amazing deal. You'd think that there is still significant value to be derived from Miller's contract.
If the Canucks can get Hughes on board, they should seriously consider keeping both players. At the end of the day, both players are right about each other. Pettersson needs to get his shit together, and Miller needs to shut the f*** up. Until both players realize that, the ability for the team to derive trade value from them will be significantly lower than it should be.

I also find it kind of funny how doom and gloom we are with our players but if you read other teams boards, they are very high on Pettersson and Miller despite their struggles.

Miller opening up places he wishes to go is a good thing. He is helping instead of hindering. Could be far worse.
If Boeser's term demand lowers his AAV to mid-low 7s or even high 6s, they should re-sign him. Sticking to a 3-4 year max term is a mistake. They have to get to 6 years at least.
The rising cap and the fact that he's pacing 31 goals even now means he is the most efficient option. All while being a good teammate.

well........yeah. Our fans flooding the trade boards are probably all deluded into thinking we'll get this massive package for either, but that's not the way economy works. I keep seeing the term 'distressed asset' and for a very good reason. Some people that know economics better than I do seem to be with the same lines of thinking.

I think it is too late for that much a haul unless it is to a top ten team where the picks might be 22 to 32 and 54 to 64.
I still think it might be better to trade for a young defenseman not yet a regular.
The Devils have two dmen of interest not regulars, Nemec and their first pick of last year, Silayev.
With retention used for Boeser maybe a Miller and Boeser trade.
Those two and Mercer.
They can do that especially with Hischier's injury going LTIR
Not a big win immediately but it does open up cap space now and possibly solidify the defence rebuild for 6 years.
IS there any world where a three player trade is made? JTM, BB and Demko? Now that would be a mega blockbuster.
Carolina? Buffalo? Columbus?
As long as fans don't let the shows sell doom and gloom for not getting instant gratification there could be a silver lining(s) in the future if a build is done properly.

Well the reason the cap is going up is because revenues are going up, so every team has more to spend. A lot of those revenues are also league revenues that will be distributed equally, so poorer markets should be at an advantage.

With the recent salary cap news is anyone else thinking this team should just move Pettersson to the highest bidder and build for the next 3 playoffs around the now extremely underpaid Hughes and to an extent Miller? My thoughts were always to try to get out of the Miller contract before it “becomes bad”, but now, I’m not even sure it ever will be considered bad.
Moving Pettersson for a bunch of assets, and getting a top 6 center and top 4 defender plus a bunch of capspace opening up might be this team’s best shot.

in 2022 he was coming off 46 and 49 point seasons with 23 goals each.
he had 55 and 73 points seasons after signing the deal with 18 and 40 goals. he is now trending to 32 goals and 64 points. he's still only 27.
$8m would be a good deal for the canucks.
