To be clear, I'd be fine with Toffoli as a 'plan B' at 1 year/$4 million or something.

But Toffoli is not going to get 1 year. Or $4 million. He's going to get the Eriksson/Backes special and it's going to be a bad contract for whoever signs him.

Yep. I only really see three good one-year options on the UFA market: Skinner, Arvidsson and Zucker. Would be okay with any of them.

We'll likely see some more after buyouts/qualifying offers happen.

Edit - Forgot Skinner.

I'd be very interested in Arvidsson but someone is going to get weird and offer him way more term than is justified. I don't have a problem offering him 2 years at a decent cap hit, though.

Definitely would prefer an upgrade on DeSmith but certainly not almost everyone assumed silovs was the instant backup, he's best in Abby until a callup is required.
Also like Tolopilo and would be fine selling high on silovs even though I'd rather keep them both and see what happens.

Tanev & Toffoli come here for under eight and a half million imo.

No thanks to arvidsson, rather duclair, still really want Kostin.

when he thanked Abby for the memories after the season was over, I kind of wondered if maybe they told him he was going to be a 7/8 guy in Vancouver next season.

It's an interesting thought but those spots are always open for competition. If things work out where Juulsen, Friedman, and Woo all make the team that leaves their 6,7,&8 all right handed with only Friedman being someone they trust on his off-hand.

That’s why moving on from Mikheyev & Lafferty allows this team to play quicker as they had good straight line speed but lacked agility, quick pivots, & moving the puck quick.

Still can't believe we have our entire 3rd line locked up for 10M.

Meh. We had our entire 4th line locked up for 10M 6 years ago.

Arvidsson is my Lekkerimaki placeholder if we can squeeze him in. 1 yr show me deal. He might do it because playing in our top6 with Pettersson or Miller and even our PP which i believe he could fit into would catapult his next deal vs whatever crap he gets offered this summer that has term attached to it.

Makes a lot of sense....would be a really good mentor for Hoglander too to see a guy his size just bring it and make things happen

I don't think he's getting less than $5 and I don't want to give him 3 years.

His skating looked awful last year. I'd rather do a 1-year to Skinner then if those are the options.

His last two contract AAVs were $4.6m (3 yrs) and $4.25m (4 yrs) respectively. He has bounced around the league. He liked it here. If he chooses winning/environment like Joshua has done, I could see him repeat that $4m~ AAV on a good team.

I don't think the Canucks go to $5m+ AAV for him.

If you had to give him 3 yrs at $4.5m, would you do it?

(Skinner is not a fit for Tocchet, imo)

I wonder if the team is looking at insurance for Brock.

I hadn't thought of this, but this is a very good point. They may be hedging against an expected departure here (a la Pettersson/Lindholm).

I would line it up for the OEL buyout and no longer.

Ideally, yes, but he's going to want that 3rd year.

Lol true. As a previous poster mentioned straightaway speed is overrated; agility, quickness, doggedness on the puck etc. is much more important. Matthew Tkachuck is arguably the slowest player in the NHL and he’s a fantastic player.

I can see him prioritizing fit and a short term deal....and there probably isn't a better fit for him out there. Tre Kronor line. how sweede it is.

Oh for sure. That's just who I like up front.

My UFA preferences on the back end would be Dillon and Carrier.

Just the ran the numbers with AFP's projections for Guentzel, Heinen, Dillon, and Carrier and doesn't look good for fitting them in. It would be a 21 man roster, about 0.6m over the cap, and no back-up goalie.

If you're adding Guentzel and Heinen up front for sure you're shipping out Garland - I can't see this front office having four tiny guys in the top 9 (including Hoglander).

One thought for roster construction:

To fully utilize Poolman's LTIR, we are going to need at least 3 waiver exempt or waived players to make the team. I would assume we will see some roster shenanigans to maximize the cap room available and you need waiver flexibility to do it.
