Well assuming Pettersson Chytil Lekkerimaki is a line next year, we need a whole new 2nd line, or 1st depending on how you look at it

I have warmed up to the idea of trading for Zegras. He has 2 power play points in the last two years. That is 63 games played and 30 points. He has been injured but even when he plays he is used all over the lineup and he has no confidence. Deployment looks pretty average not being heavily sheltered anymore. Ducks are so bad defensively nobody is really gonna grade out well in there system. I think there are sign that he could improve, get his confidence up, better deployment, more power play production and better teammates. The acquisition cost won’t be very high too.
Isn’t he just another Kuzmenko?

Zegras and Tocchet.....who that would match made in....er hell, I would think. Sometimes you just have to accept the fact that a flashy first round draft pick with loads of talent, just isn't going to realize it in the NHL.

Certainly the Canucks have had enough experience with those kind of picks over the years.

I suspect them taking him off the market was just a negotiating play for the trade market—rather than a true commitment to the player.

Continuing to play him feels like an anti-negotiating ploy. He just keeps looking worse.

The way he's going he'll probably spend this off season recovering instead of training. They'd be better off resting him for this season and get him fit and on the weights asap. A shot at 2 games of play off revenue trumps a shot at a healthy 1c next year.

Elliotte Friedman last night on HNIC said that teams are attempting to trade for both Brayden and Luke Schenn to unite them on the same playoff team.

Given how much Vancouver has sought to fix its culture mid-season, their need for another center that can play top-nine to replace JTM minutes, and their prior history and admiration for Luke Schenn, and their oodles of cap space to pull it off….

…it’s hard to not see the Canucks being one of the teams considering this.

Perhaps. But Luke Schenn was quite upset with the Canucks after his last stint here.

Was he? Can you refresh my memory on why?

I remember him and Miller getting into it once, but other than that, he seemed to have nothing but positive things to say.
I can’t remember the details, but his wife was pregnant and due around the deadline, and I think he asked them to trade him earlier because of that, and then they didn’t and he was traded around when his wife gave birth and he was pissed.

I think Heinen was fine. Desharnais definitely sucked.

The big issue this summer wasn’t pro-scouting, which was probably above average, but roster construction which was poor. Allvin and JR wear that.

I think every team goes through cycles. Unfortunately we were screwed by lack of cap space again. In my mind this was always gong to be a transition year. We finally got a #3D, jettisoned Miller, may unload Boeser, and are awaiting D-Petey, Willander, and Lekkerimaki. I think Allvin and JR understood there was a distinct possibility things were not going to go as smoothly as last year. Debrusk was an appropriate signing but our hands were kind of tied not knowing if Boeser's money would be available or not moving forward. Going to be tricky this offseason moneywise too but the roster construction path should be far clearer. We need a top winger and probably a 3C plus some support pieces.

Totally agree. Also think overall this team doesn’t give crazy money and term to depth guys. Way different than the Benning era.

For every Heinen or Dehanrnais you have a Suter or Sherwood.

Yeah, we've made out really well on a couple of these deals and as we've seen even the ones that are not so great are able to be rectified because they aren't huge cap hits or term.

Dak had cancer lol, he shouldn’t be mentioned with the other dummies.

Not in terms of his effort level or anything but in terms of not producing it would have been hard to predict all of those players playing way below last years levels. It's pretty understandable the position we're currently in as a result. In fact we're pretty well off considering everything that's gone wrong.

Any new information about Boeser heading to the Panthers? Tkatchuk out for the remainder of the season (maybe?) might increase a Florida offer. What do they have we would want? Picks for Allvin to flip?

Both are too old. They don’t fit into the age group Allvin is targeting now.

I swear if Allvin and Co let Boeser walk without recouping any valuable assets, then Allvin should be fired on the spot. Canucks don't have enough in their cupboards to just let assets go without without getting any value back via trade. Being a borderline playoff team and having this mentality is very Benning-esque.
I agree. Team is sparse on assets as it is letting one of our most valuable pieces walk for nothing is complete idiocy.

Surrounding Hughes with a collection of players via trade and UFA is such a slow train wreck.

Theirs something special about growing with other people throughout the years and building a core and competing with them. You can’t replace that feeling or chemistry when it’s gone.

Millers gone. Demko, EP116 and BOESER are more than likely done being a core. I think doing whatever you can to make Hughes happy is a really really bad idea.

Is he an amazing player. Yes.
Do we need a player like him to compete? Yes.
Are we gonna do that over the next 2 years? No.

A real shrewd businessman would look at this as an opportunity to help fast track the next core.

Hughes has to be put on the market to fast track the next core and get pics and prospects.

It’s a no brainer at this point.

No new information because it’s made up.

However, not unrealistic with concerns about Tkachuk. Canucks would need to retain or take back salary. Panthers currently have around 2.5m in cap space and that’s expected to grow to around 3.5m by the deadline. Panthers could LTIR Tkachuk to create space, however.

Panthers don’t have any picks this season but do in 2026. Their prospect pool is pretty empty too.

I thought Elliot was basically saying it was the leafs without saying it..

Back away from the ledge, the hughes and Boeser doom postings are not necessary, dimjim is long gone.

650 had a guest on last week who mentioned someone (Joey Aces?) suggesting the Panthers were hot on Boeser. He might have made it; don’t know.
Sounds like, from what you suggest, Florida doesn’t have what Allvin would want anyway.
