Why would anyone want to hitch their wagon to this mess

Bennett is not coming here
You've become a really unnuanced doomer since the Miller trade, man.

I saw it as a mourning period, but you've been a guy with some really thoughtful and worthwhile takes in the past and I miss interacting with that guy.

Not saying you need to agree with me on things, but you're not even offering much real analysis lately. It's all just, 'we're cooked, the team is f***ed, etc'.

I can only assume its the bevy of Brad Richardson's who have played with him for +/- 19 games.

But seriously, respected veteran Marcus Pettersson maybe has a opinion coming from not a gong show orginization and about to commit 5 years to us?

Jake Debrusk who is core by default, signed for 6 more seasons here, also came from a normal orginization and now has a 60 game sample size of the dysfunction?

Honestly I dont know and dont fully believe it but I watched enough Survivor to know even Teddy Blueger is capable of a blindside.
Homie, this is facebook level posting.

Use an entirely unvetted source that even you admit you don't use typically.

And then just double down and double down.

I'm not sure about the Lankinen contract but I guess in a couple of years it's the equivalent of 3.5 million and Demko's injuries has them between a rock and a hard place.

Not saying "goat radio" is my goto source in fact i've never heard of them before today but cant help but chuckle at the smoke lately even after noted insider Cam Robinson set the record straight for us all.

Is there not a world where fans can see this being true though? Is there anyone in that room that you can say %100 is team Petey at this point other than likely Hoggy?

This doesn't really make sense. If the locker room truly felt that way then we wouldn't have traded Miller. I just don't see a scenario where management wouldn't know opinions on Pettersson, especially from Hughes, soured that much prior to moving Miller.

If that is the case, then either our management is completely incompetent and we're essentially screwed and/or Hughes is an idiot who lied that things were good only to now backpedal. He has to know trading Pettersson at this point means we're dead in the water. His value is absolutely shot, dead.

Needless to say, if guy's source is accurate, we're so thoroughly f***ed, signing Marcus was kind of pointless and we should just scorched earth the whole thing.

Just circling back to Drance’s comments here - interesting to see Forbort’s future mentioned. I wonder if D-Petey’s play has made the Canucks consider at all whether to move on from Forbort, who has been really solid after a tough start to the season.

As for Suter - I don’t think he’s quite as easily replaced via free agency as some think. I’d be interested in having him back as he’s such a useful, versatile player, but pigeonholing is value is kind of hard, and I’d want to avoid overpaying.

The Canucks basically have 2 UFA’s with actual value, Boeser and Suter.

If Petey is your 1st liner, Chytil your 2nd liner then Suter is your natural 3rd line Centre.

Bleuger/Raty can fill that 4th line spot.

The problem I have with that is he isn’t good at faceoffs, and he’s not a shutdown guy you can play against other teams top players. My preference would be to get some size in there and someone you can match up to open up minutes for the other guys. So then the question becomes, do you want to pay Suter 3-4 mill to be a bottom 6 winger?

My preference would be yes, if he will sign short term. I would do 2-3 years x 3.25. Canucks lack depth at all positions and his 12-15 goals isn’t easy to replace.

Then you have Boeser, of course we can’t understate the degenerative nature of the owner. Desperate for playoff revenue, forgetting about long term success and only caring about short playoff revenue. The only thing that scares the hell out of me is this “self rental” bull shit.

You either sign him or trade him. I don’t know what the best option is but if you lose him for nothing you are setting franchise back a couple years. Would it surprise me? Of course not.

Guys, NHL 2024 tells me I can send Boeser to Minnesota for Wallstedt, and EP + Demko to Columbus for Fantili and Voronkov.

Honestly? I don’t hate it. Incredibly unlikely we could get that kind of return though from this combination of assets, especially considering Minne likely needs Wallstedt given MAF’s age and Fantilli/Voronkov being…Fantilli and Voronkov…

I don’t think you’ll be able to do everything you guys want to by the deadline without significantly pissing off Hughes more.

We’re at the point where we need him more than he needs us. We f*** that up, we may as well pack it in as a franchise.

Boeser 50% retained to Minnesota for Heidt, Wallstedt, and a 2nd? Or Bankier and a 1st.

I’d want Heidt as the main piece though.
Not happening. Wallstedt is completely off limits. lol

wild wouldn't move wallstedt at all and he has more value than Boeser! Also, wild are going after Brock Nelson, not another winger. Minnesota's GM doesn't move 1st round pick or top prospects for rentals. Don't know what Lemon is thinking , but wild wouldn't ever move Wallstedt let alone having to add another top prospect for free agent to Be.

How about Teddy Blueger for Joel Eriksson Ek

I think Allvin has now got this franchise into approaching chaos. He has certainly weakened the team's trade stability.
He forced, pressured EP into signing and that isn't working out right now.
He flittered away moving EP until he hasn't ANY value for a return, if anything the team may need to add sweeteners.

EP gets critiqued by the Swedish coach but played until they need a goal. EP's quote is he is happy with his defensive play.

Now the mouth piece Tocchet says EP got injured in the tournament and is game to game by absolutely no description of the injury, not even the vague upper or lower body areas. Injured in the tournament might work for Boston and Florida but not with EP.

I watched those games, I saw no time when EP could have been injured or showed anytime he was injured.

Who can believe ANYTHING Tocchet blurts out? Demko, a couple of times now, close but ends up missing extended periods of time, EP40, tendonitis but many people know that rest is the preferred recovery, no problem with OEL, but OEL is bought out weeks later and only days after OEL is told he won't be moving.

Lots of "he didn't get proper training in summer", summer was last year and he has had 40+ games to get into "game shape" which every player will tell you is at a higher level than working out with weights. He has had over 6 months to get into shape but still they trot out that and try really hard to ignore that his deterioration started in early 2024 over a year ago.

Allvin blocked Quinn from even going to watch his brother play in the tourney and he is still doubtful for today's game, Quinn was already back east resting with his family. Lets build up some of that goodwill some fanatics are trying for, the one's that are "keep Hughes happy at any cost". Ya, that works good

Now comes the Boeser thing. There is such a cloud over the team with all this nonsense they will not trade Boeser saying it is for the playoff push, so nothing in return.

The Pettersson contract is the biggest miss by management by far at this stage, maybe it improves, maybe it doesn’t. This based on the fact they actually had an out after his play had fallen off a cliff.

This offseason was bad, but not crippling in terms of cap hits and contracts. They’ve managed to keep most of the periphery players on relatively short-term deals. That doesn’t excuse the piss poor pro-scouting this past summer.

Management reportedly had interest in Danny Nelson and Kyle Palmieri earlier in the year. Nelson, Palmieri and a draft pick for Boeser.

Debrusk, Lankinen, Sherwood were all good signings. Even Forbort hasbeen good after an initial slow start.

Heinen and Deharnais sucked but they're gone now.
I think Heinen was fine. Desharnais definitely sucked.

The big issue this summer wasn’t pro-scouting, which was probably above average, but roster construction which was poor. Allvin and JR wear that.

Remember the tweets from two weeks ago that EP40 was staying? From Thomas Drance today at The Athletic:

Pettersson remains off the trade block ahead of the NHL trade deadline, but — and this is just the sense I get — that’s not entirely ironclad. If a rival team called with an enticing idea, I’m confident the Canucks would listen.

I suspect them taking him off the market was just a negotiating play for the trade market—rather than a true commitment to the player.
