We arent buy high sell low.

We're "we seen red flags when the stock was high and wanted to sell high" people
And you wanna sell now - so that's sell low. That time has come and gone. Every GM is gonna undercut Allvin at this point and there's no shot another 1C is coming back. The center depth is absolutely shattered with Petey traded. It makes no sense with Miller traded.

If there is even the smallest inkling whatsoever about Quinn Hughes not wanting to stay in Vancouver long-term.

You 100% have to trade him in the off-season at the absolute peak of his trade value.

Especially if they want to retool, if the organization decides that they want to rebuild, which is very unlikely, then feel free to wait until the trade deadline and and negotiate a signing until the last second.

Obviously, we’re still very early into this potentially happening, right now I would put it highly unlikely, but it’s good to be prepared for everything.

As for a fan though?
If Quinn Hughes decides to leave us, trade or not, it would probably be the most devastating blow for my fandom since the Stanley Cup loss and riot.

Just thinking out loud

Players reaching FA status.

I wonder how many fans realize that once home grown players are reaching FA status a lot are moving on.
Two haven't Boeser and Pettersson so far.
A lot of contracts have taken players into FA status by a year.

His bargaining position has gone up a ton with Demko's injury. Its no longer a question of whether the Canucks will run a goalie tandem next year with the other goalie probably getting paid 3-5 million per year, but more a certainty. And Lankinen and his agent will know this.

Personally, Lankinen's play has been pretty average. I wouldn't give him a big contract, but at the same time, the Canucks are f***ed if they can't find a goalie who can at least give league average goaltending for 40-60 games a year because you can't expect Demko to play much more than 40 games (if that).

Lmao. The roster is in a tail spin. Crazy what can happen in a year.

2 x 1C losses.
Demko broken.
Boeser future uncertain.
Hughes decision upcoming in 2 years.
Lanks rejecting an offer (rumor)

We're being somewhat forced in to rebuild territory.

I really really hate committing 4-5M on a goalie based on a 1 year performance. But it’s like what choice do we have? Demko’s injury woes make him unreliable and Silovs has not progressed well at all.

I think you have to just give in to Lankinen’s asking price because there aren’t many better AND cheaper options in free agency. And him being familiar with this team/staff is advantageous over any potential free agent.

Who would you get in return for that kind of package? And would it be worth it just to get rid of him?

I would take my chances with EP than get rid of good prospects. At least the cap is going up.
I have no idea of a return package. If it is a player getting his stats but younger and cheaper why not? EP hasn't played at his past levels for over a calendar year. He has had three months off in that time.

Is it worth a chance that what you see is what you get? Worth the chance of doubling down on another Eriksson contract? IF he doesn't rebound after waiting then the suggested possible sweeteners might be barely enough. The team cannot bury a 11.6 million dollar contract. At least if he is gone then there is more concentration made to get a #1 & 2 centers. AND the 11.6 million in cap space, the Canucks will need that because they already spent 5.5 mil of next year's cap for nothing or paying players to play against them.
There is an extreme Pettersson denier and then there is whatever THAT is. I cant believe after a year of being told Pettersson is worth everything from Brady Tkachuk to Tage Thomspon to Conor Bedard by some that even his most argent non supporters could stoop so far to the other end of the spectrum.

Lekkerimaki, Willander and a 1st to dump Pettersson is pretty nuts even for me.

Pettersson has HUGE value, even today.

But every day that passes another Buffalo Sabres reporter will write a hit piece on the trade they dodged, like we seen this very morning today.

When it reaches Columbus and Anaheim then we panic.

Voronkov and Marchenko absolutely exploded this year. I can guarantee I can pull up an old post of mine where those exact two were 2 of my 4 quarters I proposed here before.. like the Brock Faber include when he was a LA King I posted earlier for a old Jt Miller trade.

Tick tock. While he still has supposed 1 for 1 value to some.
EP's value started with his past performances combined with excuses/reasons for a decline now. But after a year and then falling flat while playing for his country, being benched by his nation's team, after his comment's of he was happy with his defensive game but didn't get more than 3 shifts in the third period.
As far as valuable, how valuable is he to the team now? How is he being valuable?

There were a lot of fans that kept hanging on to Eriksson too, Eriksson was a pretty good defensive player with a bloated contract
I can't think of specific examples, and don't currently have time to do the legwork, but I think over the last 20 or more years there are certain sprains, strains, contusions, etc to the ACL/MCL that require immediate surgery. And there are some where the player will be inhibited by a large percentage, but if he can tolerate the pain he can play on it until or unless he decides to get surgery.

I really wasn't shocked by the treatment of Mikheyev. The only thing I thought was stupid was that they didn't get it a month or two earlier to make sure he started the following year on time.

But him missing an extra month or two of the season, when there would be no further damage, so that he could be healthy in June versus healthy in late July didn't really make much sense to me.

You have this incredible ability to propose franchise destroying 'solutions' in like 75% of your posts for the team that you cheer for.
I had a total reconstruction on my knee. It got hurt, I went to the hospital using crutches and when they asked me to sit I told them no, if I lifted my foot off the floor my foot spun around.
I got emergency surgery that day, the doctor did a great job, I got lucky and had one of the best. I was told it was the same type as Steve Prodborski, the skier had, detached not torn. I took me the better part of a year for a 75% recovery and 18 months to feel good again. Ended up with a 7" zipper.

Franchise destroying suggestions? Who? Who is the franchise player? Hughes? Ya, the writing is on the wall.
I guess my idea of a franchise player is much different than yours, that okay it's opinions after all. It will be the first time he has a choice of where he plays and money will not be a problem for any team. He could go straight to a cup contender and win a cup immediately after next year.

I try to look at what is controllable by the team and not beholding to what a player might do or not do.
There are controllable parts of running a team, getting managing and not hope.
I can't see the future but I can estimate what is probable based on past performances.
I can see what the cap will look like, I can see contract's expiring, I can see when players are reaching FA status, I can see how a group has preformed over a 5 year period and come close to projecting long term success.
For me it isn't about hope of what will happen, it is hope the management manages the team for the market and not individual players. It isn't a country club after all.

Team has no choice but to pay Lankinen if they want to even be in the playoff race next year (and Hughes contract/team competitiveness considerations). There is no choice.

The list has thinned out but Hill, Vejmelka, and Lyon are the other comparables. Hill obviously being on the high end but comes with his own risks.
Yeah, I mean I like Lankinen and all, but I certainly don't feel like we need to be held hostage to his demands...there are other reasonably capable goalies out there...and its possible that Demko could come back stronger in a contract year. Happy to give Lanks a healthy raise but I don't think we need to get taken behind the woodshed.

Lankinen has the team by the balls and he (and his agent) knows it.

Zero risk for him to wait it out until he gets what he wants.

If he does not get it from the Nucks, another team will give it to him in FA.
if he stumbles down the stretch and we fall out of the playoff mix, he leaves a lot of money on the table.

And we know they're never wrong...lol. Better open the vault Francesco we've got a backup to sign.

Has "no money". It's why ticket prices are going up.

I was also not in the camp of wanting to give Lankinen $4+M for 4 or 5 years, because he is a goalie and goalies are voodoo (outside of the truly elite).

But yeah....they have to cut bait on Demko. He brings too much roster uncertainty to the club. He's not gonna be able to be a real starter and remain healthy enough in the crease. Trade him for anything, give Lankinen his price, then maybe you can get Vejmelka for cheap, or go to the Lyons to be a tandem partner.

I agree. If I am the Canucks, I'd probably favour giving him a bit more per year and trying to get the term of the contract shorter (like three years) just in case this team implodes and we need to try a rebuild/retool and don't want to be stuck with him in 4-5 years.

tbf they probably offered lankinen a contract with like 3M AAV, which he would obviously reject

i'd go 5Mish. we are absolutely boned in net without him, and you can see the negative effects on the team when that happens (22-23 season + earlier this year with silovs)

Hard to say what Lankinen's price will be though. I feel like Allvin probably offered something like $3M x 3 (that was rejected). He'll ostensibly be the top UFA goalie this summer. Could he get $5M x 5 somewhere? Idk, maybe? VAN isn't going to match that.

this is lankinens last chance at making money so he will be going for the most possible.
someone likely offers 25-30mil over 5/6 years
only way to keep the cap down is to increase the years, considering how bad our goaltending situation is.. it makes sense
