I 100% agreed with the direction of last season's deadline. At the time, I said that I thought it was probably going to be their best shot at the Cup in Quinn's current contract window. I would've gone even more all-in, honestly. Used Lekk as a trade chip for another upgrade.

I'm not really sure this argument has much sway. I'm going to be a Canucks fan even if we did a tear down rebuild. I would watch less games but would still be a fan. I get your point though. I support having one eye towards the future.

8mil for 3 more years after this season for someone good for about 50 games a year and cant be counted on to survive playoff hockey.

It has been reported by Sevaralli that Ottawa has been looking to get rid of Norris all year and would look at getting rid of his 8mill off the books as a win iteself.

You are of course correct. Josh Norris is a cap dump. Garrioch has implied as much here:

But I think what happens is that people see he is 25 and the dreams of potential take hold. This is HF, after all. Still, it doesn't change what he is right now. Nor, what he is likely to be moving forward.

I have no illusions on that front, but I think he fits specifically because VAN can take that type of chance now, and they need centre help.

They should also re-sign Suter. Get as much redundancy as is possible to make up for the loss of Miller.

I’d do it this season because next season is going to be worse. We are committed to pushing our chips in, let’s just do it this time and hope for the best.

This team is largely so far down the standings for understandable reasons:

1. The defense wasn’t constructed properly.
2. There were locker room/culture issues.
3. The team has had injuries to their core players throughout the season.

Despite this—they are still in the playoffs. And now that they have resolved two and a half of these three issues they are beginning to string together some wins.

I’ve been as pessimistic as any of us this year—but they are probably an effective EP40 and a 2nd line center away from being as competitive as they were going into the playoffs last year. As others pointed out—without a few bad breaks they probably could’ve beaten Edmonton and then who knows.

The opportunity cost of pursuing those outcomes are not as onerous as some are outlining. Neither Norris nor Schenn will cost our top prospects, and the 2025 1st will probably not net an NHL player in the next three years.

Remember, when LA, or Washington, or St Louis won their first Stanley Cup none of them entered those playoffs as clear juggernauts. But they all entered with vibes and momentum.

If Vancouver can sustain the good times they discovered between now and the deadline—I say reward this group again and see what they can do.

I think the bigger problem is that they want to get off the $9.5 million in base salary for this year and the next 2. I think they had no problem paying him $5 and $6.5 million the last two years. But now that he is earning $9.5 million on a team that does not like to spend a ton money if they can help it and he is not really earning its now a problem. I would give up any assets for him in a trade.

I think this is why ownership and management might prefer Brayden Schenn—while his AAV cap hit over the next three years is $19.5m total, his actual salary due is only $14.8m total.

Josh Norris by comparison has a total AAV cap hit of $47.5m but his actual salary due is $42.6M.

For an owner that has been stung recently by LTIR contracts like Ferland or Poolman—I don’t see a huge appetite to assume the risk of that Norris contract. The term and salary commitments are way more risk than anything like the Chytil contract.
