Here’s my spreadsheet for upcoming UFAs, each team’s cap situation, and a trade tracker. I update the spreadsheet daily. I use CapFriendly to create this list and AFP Analytics for the contract projections.

Edit: Spreadsheet has been updated with AFP's latest projections and I added a new section for RFAs.

No but it's easy to do so.

My numbers show a total of 630.63m in available capspace. On my list there's a total of 351.76m in projections for UFAs and 260.49m in projections for RFAs for a total of 612.25m.
is your list scrubbed to get rid of washed up/injured UFAs that likely won't find work going forward? because when i copied the AFP data into a blank sheet and just did a simple sum of the UFAs it was ~$432.7MM. when i added up functional cap space from your sheet, it was just under $366MM.

For the most part, yes. Same goes for RFAs as I wanted to only include ones that had a strong chance of making the NHL next season.

Garland is a middle-six winger making almost $5M. He wouldn't fetch much of anything on the trade market.
Garland is a 20 goal scorer, 50 point forward who can drive a line all by himself. He did almost all of his production at even strength. He followed this up with an impressive playoffs, winning battles all over the place, making big plays and scoring big goals. Any question marks around Garland and his size have been answered - he is now an asset with positive value.

He has no trade protection and the cap is going up. He does not have much term left.
You guys are stuck in Benning mode.

This is a whole different world. Lots of teams will be interested in Garland.

Yeah if we trade him it will be because we are getting some prime assets back and they found a way to use that cap differently.

They literally couldn't give Garland away in October 2023 after a season where he had 1 less point than he had this year.

I love Garland and what he brought this year (and I don't want to move him), but you aren't getting shit for him in a trade. Like maybe a 3rd rounder or something.

Makes no sense to trade Garland, his value to the team at his cap hit is greater than his value in the trade market. The guy brought it every night, especially down the stretch and in the playoffs when the games got tougher. He's a keeper, just needs a linemate with size and finishing ability to play with to get the best out of him, Joshua or a Joshua type. We need more 5v5 play drivers up front, not less.

Plus the guy finally appears to love playing here after never really seeming comfortable since the trade.

Yep. Keep him 100%. He is the type of player that elevates his game in the playoffs and when games matter. You don’t trade that.

The issue with Garland is he’s not a valuable special teams guy, he hasn’t meshed with Miller or Petey, and he’s not going to bring a physical element. He’s a luxury on the 3rd line but can we afford that being so tight to the cap?

Love the player though and not opposed to him staying but if another team offered something decent, he’s definitely a way to save some cap and upgrade the top six.

I mean it depends on what we get back and how they change the team. I imagine if we trade Garland it will enable a roster like this.
???? - Miller - Boeser
Hog - Petey - Guentzel/Stamkos
Pod - Lindholm - ????

You are just shifting the money to Petey’s wing and to Lindholm. It opens up a lot of options for the 3rd line (we don’t really need to play Pod there).

You keep Garland for the same reasons you would keep a high end third line center. It's unusual for a contender to have a winger rather than a center carry your third line (especially one that doesn't kill penalties), but it strangely works here (and there aren't many good alternatives internally/externally at the moment).

Speaking of special teams, I wouldn't be surprised next year if they try to get him to work on his PK skills a bit to get his minutes up.

I really don’t think Lindholm can carry his own line offensively, he’d become a whipping boy here in this scenario

Depends on how GMs see him. GMs have this irrational love for PLAYOFF HEART AND SOUL WARRIOR. He did drive play in a game 7 and score a goal against a supposing cup contender so it should be surprising that impressed some GMs, especially a bunch of GMs are former players.

Exactly this. With Garland you basically have a ready made 2nd/3rd line, it’s a no-brainer to keep him unless you’re signing multiple high end players and need his cap space.

I think NHL pro scouting is generally very bad and '5 points in 13 games = small guy bad in playoffs' will still win out with lots of teams.

But like I said in my previous post, maybe you could get a 3rd, and that's actually a huge difference from 'couldn't give him away without a large sweetener' which was the case in October-November.

The thing is... they won't. The best we're likely to get for Garland is a 2nd. He's worth far more to us than the equivalent of throwing a dart at the board and hoping it turns into a decent player 2-4 years later.

It's that more than anything. Next year, he has to be a mainstay with Miller or Pettersson. If he is not a top6 solution here. And while you wouldn't get much for him in a trade, and he's worth more to the team than a middling pick + B/C prospect, his money shifting over to a legit top6 solution may be the answer. It just depends upon what they can procure for that money.

It wouldn't be the pick that's immediately valuable, it would be the cap space to get a legitimate top6 fix that is valuable.

But if he's a mainstay with Miller or Pettersson next year, that move doesn't need to be made.

I think we're running back largely the same forward group and I would put the chances of Lindholm re-signing at maybe 15 percent. If the bottom 6 is be shored up through trade I've liked Kaliyev for a long time. His skating isn't very good in any way or any direction but he's highly intelligent and should be pretty cheap to acquire.

I honestly wonder where in the lineup they have him slotted in, when discussing bringing him back. $7+ million for a third line centre does not make sense to me. Do they want Petey playing wing going forward, which would be interesting. I find it weird that he would be (reported) there number one priority in terms of resigning pending unrestricted free agents.
