I'm sorry, Miller was not the best goalie on the planet at any point in his career. That's an absurd statement.
Even if he was, it does not justify his contract, despite all the menthorship BS.
Lack is the better goalie at this point in time

Sorry, Lack is not a better goalie. He is unproven as a starter, still a back up, coming off a below average season.

Read yet ANOTHER article today making it clear that Carolina is in the market this summer for reliable starting goaltender.

Toronto, Calgary, CAROLINA, and possibly Dallas well known to be in the goalie market.

That is not to say I think Miller is all that. Time for Markstrom to take over. But very debatable Lack is better and he will definately not have the career Miller has had.

Agree to disagree. I think the "best goalie in the world" should not be determined by who had the best 60 game stretch of a 7 month period. The whole body of work matters. We see goalies get hot and fade all the time. Miller is an above average goalie that had a one really good season. At no point in time, he was the BEST goalie in the world.

At no point has Eddie Lack ever been or ever will be even in that conversation.

Miller was the best goalie on the planet for a while

which begs the question what is "a while" REALLY?

According to 'WhoseLainesItAnyway' (good name):

2/3 of a pregnancy
Approximately 1/8 of your average university undergraduate program
1/162 of the average Canadian's life expectancy
Your average TSA line

----
Put it this way, if you can justify Miller's contract than you should have no problem with Burrows'.

A while means that he was for a period of time in the past. I don't see what is so difficult for people to grasp here. Was he the best at one point in 2010? For sure he was. Does this justify the dumb contract Benning gave him when he was no longer amongst the best? Not a chance.

If we never, ever talk about goaltending ever again I will be such a happy person.

Thatcher Demko wins back to back Vezinas in 2019 and 2020.

TPM: "I'm still going to cut a *****."
*Demko injured in 2021, Garteig wins Vezina in 2021*
"Oh FFS"

Yes, a pretty tired subject for sure. I'm personally a bit happy we don't have to talk about you know who vs. you know Luo anymore.

Because even if he wins those Vezinas I'm sure that all of us will still find something to complain about, it's the Canuck fan way.

Demko could go 16-0 for three years with 16 shut outs and we'll be like "oh he didn't look like he was trying" or "should have given xx backup more starts".

I don't agree with this 100%, but I do see the logic there and I'll give you that.

Bolded is what I disagree with but I don't really feel like getting into that.

I know no other way.

We aren't exactly the most stoic bunch. The peaks are too high and the valleys too low.

Fair enough, let's just say that there could be an argument that in 2010 he was the best, or at least amongst the best.

This is just a dumb discussion at any rate.

The only thing dumb about Miller's contract was the length (should've been two years instead of three).

Well, I'd say it would have been more palatable at 2 years, but really, I don't see why they needed to invest $6M in a goaltender. Miller over Lack is not some sort of a massive upgrade.

Listening to Benning, he implied that when he conducted his player interviews upon taking over the Canucks in 2014, that one thing most players had asked for was stability in net. Same for Kesler - he implied that there was a uniform demand that he be moved off the team given his trade request.

Probably an unpopular opinion: Miller was at least as good this season as he was in his Vezina-winning year, though I wouldn't say Miller was the best goalie in the league in 2009/10.

I agree, Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider were very overrated back-ups.

they were so meh, they had to be co-backup goalies.:sarcasm:

How long have you been a Canucks fan? There have been like 5 seasons when the goalie position has not been talked about and it has been biggest debate/gripe for the remaining 41...
At least it involved a couple goalies battling it out for the starters job vs let's see whoever we can stick between the pipes that won't make us puke.

With the goalie demand this high in the upcoming off season I see a tiny chance of Miller being booted. Then again, I don't see Miller being much better than Hiller Niemi Lehtonen or Bernier.

Wait, why do I have this feeling that Benning will switch Miller out and take in an even worse goalie with far worse contract...

**** me...
