I'm a big Fan of talon and would welcome this.

Make benning director of scouting , tallon gm.

Tallon is also a way better communicator to the public. Original canuck.

Seems weird. He was just promoted a few months ago and is already tired of it?

Respect Friedman but not sure I'm buying that one.

Maybe he was "promoted" to a job he had no interest in and they were just moving him up to avoid moving him out?

I'd be shocked if the Canucks did this. I think something like this would have to come with Linden being removed first. I can't see him being behind canning Benning after just 2 years - especially given his public comments in support of everything Jim does.

Good points. As an advisor I can see. The aqualinis also had George McPhee in their box earlier this year

He just got promoted this week because they wanted to go more analytics based with their AGM.

So I assume this is a not wanting to be responsible for compensation on firing him maybe

The thing is though....why would Tallon want to come to Vancouver as an "advisor?" Isn't he basically already that in Florida - and more?

Maybe the Aqualini's are offering him a boatload of money.......or Benning has expressed a desire to move on from the GM job. Who knows.

This screams of "adviser" role to me if it happens, and at this point, Tallon would be a clear upgrade in managerial voice (maybe not the best, but it's a start).

If this somehow pushes JB to director of amateur scouting for now, it'd be even better. But that seems unlikely.

I'm gonna..
I'll gladly take Tallon over Benning. He has a LOT of respect around the league and isn't going to get constantly bent over in trades. Yes please.

I would honestly dismiss this far more if it didn't just come out of left field by a reputable reporter. Who his source is, no idea but it's odd.

Super weird. Wish Friedman would provide a little more detail re: potential structure, etc., but the fact he floated it as all makes it credible. Don't see how the setup would work.

Make my day.
I don't see how it can be done unless Benning wants to step aside because he feels he's out of his depth. The next best position for Tallon would be as President with hands on running, doing the actual GM work, but that needs the team to burn Linden and they are up to their neck in Linden touchy feely PR vibes so they can't do it.

I can't help but feel Linden to President has been a complete strategic and tactical failure. VP was the role he should have been given in the short term (3-5 years), he could still perform his primary role as PR mouthpiece but giving to team room to manoeuvre around GMs/promotions etc.

I sincerely doubt Benning will be tossed out of the GM chair for at least two more years, just look at all the votes of confidence he's been getting despite working about as proficiently as Homer Simpson.

I have no expectations for this team right now, and most DECIDEDLY not gonna hold my ****ing breath for a more competent GM hire any time soon.

Linden should have no say in player personnel decisions, but the way he talks he is intimately involved in everything the Canucks do from a roster standpoint. This is a guy that was completely out of hockey for several years and really does not have any relevant frame of reference or experience in assembling a NHL team. If he is doing anything beyond communication and PR he is out of his depth.

I could honestly see linden being moved up... And a new president hired.
