EP NMC doesn’t kick in until July 1 2025. If EP and the team don’t meet expectations this year, I could see a trade involving Buffalo. How much would that suck for EP, he would sulk even more haha

That would be a really good trade for Buffalo.

For Vancouver, the pieces they get back are valuable, but you'd really have to be certain that Cozens is a guy that's going to hit. It also makes you question about when they intend to make their push.

Byram would be a really good get though, knowing that Willander is coming soon.

I could see Kakko for Hoglander
That would be a massive win for Vancouver. Kakko is putting up solid numbers from the bottom six. Hoglander also had an awful playoff performance. Doubt he's what the rangers are looking for.

Power/Byram would be the more valuable piece in a deal than Cozens.
Which is kind of the problem with it. It is a huge swing that Cozens actually hits because if he doesn't all they have is JT MIller.

Vancouver
Would be a blockbuster, but are they moves that make sense to each team?

I don’t think it makes sense for Vancouver. As much as the team hasn’t played consistently well (mainly at home) this season, they still have a solid record and with Miller’s age and Hughes on a bargain contract, they need deals that help them now. Byram’s a good player and Cozens has potential but has struggled the past two years. A lot of their value is the long term outlook. If they could add a top 4 defensemen another way, they could upgrade the defense similarly without downgrading at center. As much as Pettersson’s struggles have been frustrating they probably have to let him figure it out. His ceiling is too high in comparison to what they’re going to get for him.

Barzal
Mayfield (was thinking Pelech, but Vancouver is deep on LD)
Cizikas
2025 2nd

for

Boeser
Garland
Desharnais

Pretty close cap wise (could retain a small amount on Cizikas to make it cap neutral)
Not sure if doable, but certainly would be a big move for both sides to change their approach on the ice . . . Isles get more scoring depth and Canucks get an upgrade on the RD
Canucks get out from under Desharnais
The Isles take on the risk of Boeser's re-signing and the possible cap hit from it.
The 2nd is to compensate for the issue of contract length the Canucks take on and if they decide to buy out CC (would be a $833,333 rate for the years)
That's horrible for the isles...wow.

I'm an Isles fan. We're top heavy in Center and need to fix the bottom 6. This allows up to put 3 solid winger combos when healthy and also pushes someone down to the 4th line that can contribute. It also helps Vancouver with grit, which seems to be a complaint I've been reading about.
You want an injury prone winger and an undersized winger to play around a centre core of 33 YO Brock Nelson and Bo Horvat? Makes absolutely no sense for the Islanders. Canucks don't even need Barzal and they'd be losing a lot of their winger depth but that is such a homerun deal they'd still have to take it
