Rumor: Canucks going after Rossi?

Wild want a player back for Rossi. Something Russo has been reporting for a while now, and seems like outside Media is catching on. Seems like if they can't get the Player they want, then maybe they would be open to picks to trade right away

That sounds like a call for 1 lightly used (But heavily damaged) Chytil

How many teams have been mentioned as having high interest outside of Vancouver?
Maybe not a good market for Rossi? So get 15OA + prospect and then use those assets to acquire the player Geurin prefers in another trade.
A smart way for Geurin to get enough value from Rossi to get what he wants.

Don't think anyone has quantified level of interest but Russo wrote an article last week and had writers from these teams talk about how Rossi could be a fit:

Canucks
Flyers
Sabres
Hurricanes
Flames
Mammoth
Jets

He also mentioned these teams as "honorable mentions":

Canadiens
Penguins
Red Wings
Islanders
Leafs
Sharks
Avalanche (probably not anymore)

Also in that article, he cited Guerin as saying he isn't dying to trade him and doesn't want to make the team worse (sorry to the lowballers in here).

He also cited Craig Button as saying "I can't imagine Rossi would not have...really good value around the league, there are teams screaming for this type of player" (sorry to the lowballers in here).

Interesting that Ottawa isn't listed given that he played for the Ottawa 67s.

Cap-wise it would be tricky to fit in anyway, unless someone like Batherson was going the other way.

Probably not listed since they already have Stutzle, Cozens and Pinto, assuming Cozens is playing center.

Rossi doesn't really fit the kind of team Ottawa is building.

He also isn't a clean upgrade on anybody in the top 6, and then already have a logjam in the top 9 if Giroux stats.

Lastly, a lot of articles seem to present Ottawa as a team with a lot of cap space, but they really aren't. They only have space shown on the cap sites because they have her to re-sign Giroux, Zetterlund, Merilainen, and fill out a 23 player roster. Giroux is not guaranteed to stay, but they plan to try to re-sign him.

Once the finish that business, they have roughly 2-5 million left with a full roster. There is speculation that Staios will want a small amount of in season cap padding. So if Rossi wants 7M, unless Giroux walks, there isn't really room for that.

I think you can probably put the teams in the "honorable mentions" as low to no interest given what else has been reported.

Seems to me that Stützle is being phased out to the wing, but maybe not

I don't think they are, they just let Giroux take a lot of face-offs since he was the best face-off man in the NHL.

I'm not gonna do that unless you have a report that says that.

Ask fans on here and they say they have no interest in Rossi unless it's for dirt cheap, but clearly reports contradict the fans, so I'm gonna go with the reports, not the fans.

I've already posted the LeBrun article where he says that he doesn’t think the Habs are on Rossi very much at all and rumours out of Montreal is that they aren't pursuing Rossi.

Plus, the specific language he (and/or Joe Smith) used for the "honorable mentions" is "[o]ther teams potentially interested in a young, scoring center". I don't see how that measures up to a reported link.

Okay the take the Canadiens out, but I'm still not going to assume every team listed isn't interested just because one apparently isn't.

Thats fine, but I wouldn't assume a team listed is interested based on an observation that they could be interested.

I think it's fine to assume that teams who need or would be looking for young top six centers would have some degree of interest in a young top six center until it's reported they aren't. That's kinda what we do here.

Just as its fine assuming teams have "no interest in Rossi unless it's for dirt cheap" unless its reported otherwise.

And a lot of what we do here are hypotheticals. Half the trade threads on the first page are proposals including players that aren't rumoured to be available and/or have trade protection. Plus the odd hypothetical that relies on a dubious assumption. Its all just shooting the shit.

Seems more weird to assume that a team who wants a young top six center isn't interested in a young top six center, but sure, go ahead. I'm just not sure why you'd be in this thread then.

Russo on the Worst Seats podcast today said that Vancouver has serious interest, but that a lot of teams needing a 2C do not have interest (cited Montreal as having no interest). The conversation then jumped into avenues where the Wild keep Rossi and figure out some sort of bridge deal.

I wish I could think of underwhelming offers as "cool, I guess Rossi is staying".
I actually think this is where things are moving based on the Worst Seats pod today.

If a team isn’t willing to trade a serious package for Rossi, why would they offersheet him at $7M or higher? If Rossi’s camp can’t get anyone to bite on an offersheet and the trade deals offered are crap, Rossi will be back in Minnesota.

Sure, but if Guerin gets to July 1 with Rossi still on the roster unsigned, he has to hold open a certain amount of cap, which might not be the worst thing in the world given his recent UFA signing, but it also might not be something he wants to do.
