I'd agree Tanev is a #2(albeit on the low end of a #2)

Now I don't know where your getting the rest from, cause I never offered anything. I simply said crunks ask was ridiculous, and I'll gladly hold go that.

A top 5/10 1st + 31-40 pick + Kapanen is crazy for a one dimensional #2 defenseman.

Tanev could be a very good #2, depends how you value offense and it's role in how it affects winning. Advanced stats are still in their infancy in hockey, they paint Tanev as a very good #2/maybe #1, but its hard to accept that at face value with no offense to speak of

the second half of that post was quoting another poster (russ4king), he offered Carrick/Leipsic/2nd

I agree that if our pick is a top 5 or 10, and if Kapanen is still lighting up the AHL that including both of those would be too much. I also think if our pick is that high, we're not going after Tanev - he's a finishing piece for us, and unless it looks like we need that then we just draft and develop

Would be good for canucks but as seen last year with Hamhuis, owners hate each other and both seem to meddle in their teams out of spite/honour

wont work any ways oilers have to give our second away to boston cause we hired peter chiarelli

Edler, Tanev and Miller at the deadline are virtually the only trading chips the Canucks really have....and the two d-man will be coveted, but probably not until the trade deadline....at this point the Canucks desperately need picks/prospects, so Benning should be able to pull something off.

Take out Virtanen and the 3rd. Virtanen has more value to us than fans of other teams. When the Nucks finally fire WD, he will get better given time to play and a longer leash. He won't develop playing 5 mins a night and getting scratched every other game.

Hansen will have value. More so than Miller.

This is funny because I think an amazing coach like Babcock could really turn Virtanen around.

He is one of the few coaches I think could.
He has the ability as he led Vancouver in scoring chances last year for 2 straight months.

That's a pretty weak core relative to their competition coming up in the Pacific.

The Oilers have McDavid, Drai, Nurse, Nuge, Pulju, Larsson, Klefbom
The Coyotes have Domi, Ekman-Larsson, Duclair, Chychrun, Dvorak, Crouse, Strome, Keller
The Flames have Monahan, Brodie, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Hamilton

Those are just the other non-Cali teams and hardly an exhaustive lists of players/prospects on those teams.
Exactly, that's the shift from the California to Edm/AZ/Cal that will happen (and in some cases already happening). Vancouver on the outside of both sides.

A better solution would be a fire sale in the front office as opposed to blowing out assets, many of whom are young and talented.

What would VAN want from MTL for Edler?

I'd be interested in these pieces: Scherbak, McCarron, Sergachev, and a 1st. I bet Sergachev is off the table though. I'm assuming Emelin has to come back for cap purposes?

Emelin, conditional 1st, Scherbak for Edler, and Mack Stewart?

condition being Habs have to make conference finals or farther otherwise it becomes a 2nd.

OR

same deal replace Scherbak with McCarron and the 1st is no longer conditional.

You are overrating the value of that pick. This draft is pretty weak, and adding Tanev to the Leafs probably props them up enough that the pick falls in the 6-10 range. Virtanen's development hasn't been great, but you could argue he should be worth a pick in the 6-10 range in this draft. I get that the pick could win the lottery, but don't think that small chance is worth it.

virtanen isnt worth a top 10 pick. make all the excuses you want for him, but he would be lucky to even crack the top 20 of his draft class now.

the leafs still arent good. LA is crushing them now. the pick is likely 5-10. they are better off just keeping Kapanen, and the shot they have at patrick/liljegren, and grabbing hague/foote with that top 10 pick.

Let's go full on shake up...

Tanev + Virtanen for Kapanen, Rychel, your 1st and your 2nd round pick this year.

This is something around what I'd probably want for Tanev.

Drop Virtanen and Kap, slap top 3 or 5 protection on that 1st rounder, latest of our three seconds this year, I'd reccommend Bracco as the prospect though, swing for the fences upside.

Well you could, but I could also argue that as a 24 year old Canadian business graduate I'd make a fine US Presidential Candidate.
