You can never too many depth d-men in your organization, Wolanin has proven to be a dominant d-man at the AHL-level; but also a guy you can call up and fits seamlessly into a bottom-pairing. Or in a pinch can move up the depth chart in the event of injuries.

Solid signing, and a two-way contract to boot. Given the season he's had, I thought Wolanin might test the UFA waters in the off-season. There's a chance he could have gotten a one-way contract, but it would probably have only been for a year.
Yes, it is a "2 way contract" but ,even if sent down he gets $500 000 a season....so at the very least he pockets 1 million over the 2 years if he does not even play 1 game at the NHL level, unlike, others on 2 ways who get $70 000 while not in the league. So good deal for him PLUS it will also discourage teams from picking him up on waivers as they would be responsible for $500 000 as opposed to $70 000. All in all, a good deal for everybody.

Nice. Well deserved.

Came in to say this as well. While technically living in Abbotsford, that’s good money and the amenities of Metro Vancouver are nearby as well.

Would say he's currently what an optimistic projection for Rathbone was. Good signing. Icing now would be to get a pick, any pick, for Rathbone.

Jim Benning woke up and said:

Feared he played well enough (which he has) to draw interest from other teams and maybe he'd seek a bigger contract elsewhere.

There is zero to complain about here. I know its garbage time but he his play has been good enough to suppose he could be adequate in a top 6 role.

Focus now has to be on the NCAA although not against trying to get Juulsen signed.

If this assessment is true then I can see why ppl here are happy with the signing.
Thanks for the info.

Not saying he *is* Fowler and he’s been playing pretty sheltered minutes and his defensive game is still a question although it hasn’t been exposed.

But he’s this lanky, mobile, zone-exit machine and his passing is exceptionally crisp and accurate. Might be the best technical passer on the team, on a team that has Quinn Hughes. Everything is absolutely sauced at massive velocity tape-to-tape.

He’s had a weird career arc in that he was a big prospect expected to be a building block in Ottawa when he was 22-23 coming out of UND and then blew out his shoulder and barely played for 3 years and struggled when he did before blowing up this year in Abbotsford.

The 2 way part is likely meaningless. Can't see him ever passing through waivers without being claimed again. Young rebuilding teams like Az or Anaheim would claim him over someone like Brisebois simply because his passing will help young talented forwards more. Never mind which one is the better overall defenceman. Surprised he couldn't get more, like higher nhl money and give up some on the ahl side.

Can anybody extrapolate on his waiver status?
