Fantastic deal. Has been a bright spot this season and has been playing better hockey than OEL who maybe he's just going to straight up replace.
OEL buyout makes a lot of sense if Wolanin can fill that role for league minimum and then for like $1-2m during the high penalty years  (hint: he can)

Excellent. I have every confidence he can provide as good or better service as the bottom pairing LD than OEL, and at a fraction of the price. We absolutely need these kinds of deals in order to restructure the cap and roster in a way that resembles a decent NHL team.

Wolanin, PDG, Aman, Dries, Joshua, Brisebois - Basically your fourth line, some bottom pairing D, and some reserves. None of these are world shakers, but they can all fill the roles they need to at a cost that allows the rest of the team to thrive.

nice signing. i'm shocked he didn't go to free agency and try to get more

When you're a fringe NHL player hoping to stick and you have an NHL organization and coach who like you and are giving you a big chance, the absolute dumbest thing you can do is get greedy and try to make a few more dollars signing in a totally unknown situation with a new team.

This is a good deal for a guy who has shown that he can play as an everyday NHLer and not look out of place. Good work by management to bring him and Bear in for minimal cost and end up with two usable Dmen in less than one day year, Benning had eight years and couldn’t do it except with a top ten pick in Hughes.

The forgotten man. He is unfortunately superfluous on our team, better to move him, maybe as a sweetener? Not sure how much, if anything, he is worth.

I'd expect the most likely trajectory for Rathbone will be that he plays out the last year of his contract next year in Abbotsford and then leaves as a Group VI UFA in the summer of 2024.

He isn't going to be making this team, and he doesn't really have any trade value you wouldn't think.

You can never too many depth d-men in your organization, Wolanin has proven to be a dominant d-man at the AHL-level; but also a guy you can call up and fits seamlessly into a bottom-pairing. Or in a pinch can move up the depth chart in the event of injuries.

Solid signing, and a two-way contract to boot. Given the season he's had, I thought Wolanin might test the UFA waters in the off-season. There's a chance he could have gotten a one-way contract, but it would probably have only been for a year.

Very pumped about the Wolanin signing. Wolanin has been the surprise player of the year for the Canucks. His breakout ability and two way play has been a blessing for the Canucks. Wolanin has taken some of the pain away from watching OEL.

What a terrific deal.
