The time for good context was about 5 posts ago. You showed me your character with your spins and exaggeration skills so I have moved on. Sorry bud.
Lmao that has been the context the entire time. They don't have value just because they were great at age 17. You're offering picks and disappointing first rounders to a team with cup aspirations. I'm sure they'd like Matheson but at the end of the day the offers you've made have just been things that work for the Habs rather than trying to find a fit between two teams, which is why everyone is calling your offers trash :thumbu:

From the Habs perspective, I'd be willing to go Dach, Newhook, and both our 1st rounders (Habs and Flames/Panthers 1st). Two young NHL players and two picks probably from 10-20 range. And yes, trade happens after the draft lottery. I'd even add Matheson and Kapanen to the mix.

My revision to that 3 way deal: Not going to happen but fun to talk about

Habs acquire:
* Pettersson

Canucks acquire:
* Barzal
* Matheson
* O Kapanen
* Islanders 2nd rounder

Islanders acquire:
* Dach
* Newhook
* Habs 1st (likely 10-15 range)
* Flames/Panthers 1st (likely 10-20 range)
Islanders get rinsed.
Dach, newhook and Matheson are not real assets .
Dach and newhook for barzal is hilarious.

Why would the islanders and the nucks not cut out the habs who essentially only offer a 10-15 range 1st rounder ?

I changed it bud and you already replied to the offer direct to the Canucks. Did you miss that part? Dach, Newhook, Matheson help keep the Cancuks competitive while they get two serious 1st rounders on top. Sorry, this is not some small offer but keep trying.

Habs don't need the Islanders to make a competitive offer to the Canucks. If the Canucks like Barzal and want to use him as a full time center, that is their choice to make. All the Habs can do is make an offer and the one I posted is not garbage or a misfit offer. That's my line of defense in our conversation in case you didn't notice.

Dach, Newhook, Matheson, Two 1st rounders (8-15 and 10-20) > Barzal and "small add"
Terrible

Good to know you two speak for everyone.

Two 1sts in the 8-15 range is good value. Add to that 3 NHLers - one of which VAN was already rumored to be interested in and how is that an awful return? Even if they wanted win now pieces, you can easily take those 1sts and flip them for somebody else. Value is value and if no other team offers a better package, you take highest value trade and go from there.

VAN might prefer something else, but no way they're looking at this offer and scoffing at it like you are.

Vancouver
What team are about to blow it all up?

Islanders?

To Montréal:
Petterson

To Vancouver:
Barzal
Small add from either Montréal or Islanders (prospect?)

To Islanders:
Montréal 2025 1st
Calgary conditional 2025 1st
Logan Mailloux

Montréal get Petterson and officially end their rebuild
Vancouver is down with the drama and replace a center with another center, who is still young
Islanders kick start their rebuild with solid pieces - Logan Mailloux is a physical (and mean AF) RHD offensive defenseman. He's one year away of being ready.

Who say no?
Canucks. Easily.

Pettersson just turned 26 a couple of months ago, Barzal is turning 28 in 5 months.
Pettersson has more points and is elite defensively. Barzal is elite offensively only.
Even on a "brutal" year Pettersson is nearly PPG.

Indeed. Most of these offers are trash lol. I know Vancouver won't win an EP trade but they won't br getting absolutely bent over either.
Cozens and Byram is the best one I have seen so far. Byram is a legit top 4 and could even reach top 2 potential.

Something Vancouver desperately needs.

Terrible

Not engaging in posters who laugh at posts and then reply expecting a genuine conversation. :loony:

I think you got your facts wrong. It's two 1st rounders (not 1) and Dach, Newhook, and Matheson are still solid NHL players.

Also, I have taken the Islanders out of it now. It's Dach, Newhook, Matheson and both the Habs 1st and Flames/Panthers 1st (post lottery offer) direct to the Canucks. Lots of Habs fans think this is overpayment so your terrible narrative is flawed because you are stuck in belittle mode.

When you're trying to trade for a player of Pettersson's caliber then there really isn't any
"you cant have player xyz, abc, def, tuv"

maybe if you have a guy who was like a top 3 pick last year and he's the future face of your organization then obviously that would be an untouchable, but other regular blue chips or top six guys should be available. otherwise you're just wasting your breath / brain power

Yup, you can clearly see some posters who focus directly at belittling anything they see as their primary focus. I agree, Canucks might be after a different return but that offer is not trash or some meh offer.

Words of choice is key. Way too many posters quick to use words like Trash, Ridiculous, Horrible, etc. It's a culture of making fun of anything you can find for some posters and that part is the real trash on these boards.

No doubt in my mind that Dach, Newhook, and Matheson keep the Canucks competitive and then you see some posters completely ignore that there is two 1st rounders on top. 1st rounders that are not back of the bus too. Very strange

I'd think the trade would be maybe a step above what Buffalo got for Eichel

Top 6 Winger (Tuch) - Prime aged + Good Contract
B+ Prospect - Krebs
1st round pick
Additional 2nd rounder or B prospect

If that's what Buffalo got for Eichel who had some medical concerns, however was coming off of a 78 in 68 season where the next top point getter had 50 points, I think switch the B prospect to an A prospect or make the first round pick unprotected if you are a bad team.

Buffalo:
Cozens
2025 First (currently 4th overall pick)
Noah Ostlund (B prospect)
Henri Jokiharu (#5 D who is relatively young)

I'd probably start there and see what Van said. Cozens is locked down on a fair value deal with upside, Ostlund is likely a middle six center and is probably ready next year, and the first round pick has serious potential.

Using the comparison of Marner, who appears to be just as bitchmade as EP, overpaid, and just as useless in the playoffs, doesn't help your argument the way you think it does

No. You just completely missed the point. The player doesn't matter. It's the scenario that's important. I simply used Marner as an easy and familiar reference everyone is aware of. Hence my second paragraph, i.e, not every person responds well to "tough love" or being screamed at.

It's almost like there's a correlation between being useless in the playoffs and not responding well to tough love

Marner has 50 points in 57 playoff games
Pettersson had 18 points in 17 games prior to playing injured last season and is still 24 points in 30 games. Both being + players

Wouldn’t exactly call them useless in the playoffs.

Maybe useless wasn't the right word, but they're a far cry from being worth their cap hits at the very least. Especially when a lot of their peers step up big while they regress

Nope. I just don't agree with your "misfits" narrative when you completely ignored two 1st rounders (8-15 and 10-20). :nod:.

Dach, Newhook, and Matheson are not "misfits". And when you add two 1st rounders on that, it's not the type of offer you pretended it to be.

I'll let you plan the spin game. Have a nice day
Eh, Dach reaches misfit status if he gets traded. 3rd OA pick who would have been on his 3rd team since the 2019 draft

The weird thing is how much JT can’t handle someone not “responding well” to him. Like why tf is he melting down over another dude to the point that he can’t be around the team anymore? Guy seems like a hothead ahole

But it's not just production based. You have to factor in AAV and contract structure. I haven't combined through every post in this thread, but there's a fair amount of players in this league that have really great contracts and ones that teams would prefer not to trade.

You seem very confident that his absence was related to issues with colleagues and not a personal matter. Clickbait speculation and fan gossip aside, I haven’t seen much to suggest that Miller’s absence wasn’t due to a personal issue (like a family health issue, marital problems, etc.).

I’m taking the word of the Canucks beat reporters who have sources within the team:

Naturally, the Canucks’ announcement left room for plenty of speculation, which is why it was great to see that The Province’s Patrick Johnston was quickly able to provide some answers. Here’s what Johnston reported in a post on the social media platform BlueSky:
“Been told that J.T. Miller’s personal leave is not related to substance or alcohol abuse or anything at all like that. It’s about giving the player a chance to re-set himself mentally. We know he is obsessed with competing at 100 per cent and we can see he hasn’t been. That’s been weighing on him.”
-Patrick Johnston

Shortly thereafter, Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali — The Team reported the same, saying that Miller’s absence is “about a player who needs a re-set. Needs time and space.”

You’re twisting words from a beat writer. Nothing you quoted indicates what your assumptions are.

Being near ppg players in the post season isn’t really a “far cry” from their cap hits. They both struggle physically but they’ve also shown they can produce.

Trade JT not Elias

Miller sat out and put himself before the team to try to force the the JT /Petterson issue

That says enough ship him out he can yell like a narcissist some where else

What do you think the percent chance is that both Miller and Pettersson are on the opening day roster next season?

When you're well over a PPG in the regular season, and other players with smaller cap hits step up (Miller, Bennett, Verhaeghe, those types)... yea it is a far cry from being worth their cap hit
