@tarheelhockey Too much love for the TFA here. I think about anyone could have imagined a basically re intro of all the old characters at separate times for nostalgia and then a girl version of Luke Skywalker minus a, aunt/uncle. It magnifies its unoriginality that they found Rey on a sand planet.

Found unlikely hero on a sand planet
hero doesnt know parents
the war finds them
all the same character base with most of the same returning characters
overwhelmingly large group of bad guys
the bad guys have a planet killing station
there is a douchey bad guy leader to go with a hot head sith lord
the good guys have to blow up planet killing station
old white dude is killed by the sith lord
good guys do blow up the planet killing station after we see its destructive power
hot head sith lord escapes despite coming face to face the hero

they really went into the bag of tricks for this one

Do you feel it was forced?

I'm just upset I'm not going to be able to complain about the lines tonight!

In all seriousness though, I hope it's because of an abundance of caution and that it's not a widespread issue

Actually....you'll have weeks to complain now. :sarcasm:

Wanna play who gave it to whom?

When did this thread become the "let me out-nerd you" thread? :sarcasm:

I've been on this forum for like 15 years and I can't recall when "let me out-nerd you" threads didn't dominate.

I don't disagree. The whole Starkiller Base thing was absurd to me. Doing it twice, for the second time... that almost felt like actual mockery of the fanbase.

That being said, for the most part, as derivative as TFA was, at least it felt like we were seeing things that happened in the same universe as the original trilogy. A lot of the movie was beautifully shot, especially the first ~30 minutes, and feels immersive like Star Wars should. The prequels didn't feel that way, and #8/#9 spent too much time feeling prequel-ish. By the time we get down to ROTS, I literally treat them as Christmas Special-level silliness that's good for a laugh, but shouldn't be viewed as essential reading.

TBH I've arrived at a point where I'm more and more willing to take Rogue One + the original trilogy + Mandalorian, and call the rest spin-offs. Makes 1-3 and 7-9 easier to digest if we just view them as merchandising cash-grabs rather than stories.

Canes In Quarantine

Day One: We are talking about Star Wars in one thread, and debating HIPAA law in another.

Day Two: An argument has broken out about how beer pairs with BBQ sauce. Send relief immediately. Urgent.

Day Five: If anyone finds this, don't open the Bojangles box. It's where we put the last *illegible*

Yeah that's overreaction. We aren't the only team which is going to go through this stuff.

No, but it does put the team back a few steps when they start playing games again, and likely playing against teams who are in their regular season groove.

That's not something we see typically, but it doesn't bode well for wins as the Canes get back into their regular season groove.

The fast start many were hoping for looks unlikely.

Rogue one is the third best star wars film.

:: lights match and walks away ::

Alec Baldwin was the best Jack Ryan.

There's a lot of highway ahead of us. For example, I'd MUCH MUCH rather have this happen in the first week than at the halfway mark... let alone the final stretch. And it's hard to say exactly what the impacts will be on the team in the long run. TT was hurt last night, and Staal wasn't coming back to the lineup any time soon. Maybe we end up postponing 3 games that would all have been Ls.

I'm willing to wait this out and see what happens. In all likelihood, the breaks balance out over the course of a season.

I hope you're right. Maybe they do make it up with some games against rusty teams off their own quarantines later. Maybe an early infection will be more advantages than a midseason one.

The difficulty is if they do quarantine the team effectively and limit this, it opens up the rest of the team to another outbreak later in the season.

But if an early season infection is problematic, a midseason infection is problematic, and a late season infection is problematic...
