That’s good to know, I trust your player evals.

I will say, it feels a bit like we’ve filled the same 2 roster holes with 5 similar-enough players (Carrier/Robinson/Martinook, Walker/Ghost), but the bets on the forwards are small enough to fill out the bottom 6 with. It does feel like Fast won’t be back based on the way we’re building.

He’s a guy where if you think there should be more production you’re going to be annoyed, and because he’s fast it’s easy to be that way. He’s a fourth liner that’s moved a couple of times for a reason, there’s not much offense here. That’s fine for us because Rod requires zero offense from his bottom six. Cycle. Grind. Jam puck at goalies feet. Pass to the point then jam for a rebound. Get off. Our fourth line last season was weird, it was often interchangeable with the second. The forwards lacked definition as a group. Making the fourth line be that defensive grind line with an occasional goal almost by accident works for us, the speedier the better. Drury between these two may make a pretty annoying trio to play against.

I had the same thought, but then where does Martinook go? They’re both lefties unless we’re having someone not play their strong side. Technically we do that sometimes but at forward the only player who had significant off side time was TT, who’s a true off side winger who needs that side to score points. Any other time that happened under Rod it was a short term needed for the moment thing. I think it generally matters very much to Rod that guys play their strong side up front, and in general to be honest. He’s made do at times with some off handed D when he had to but otherwise he doesnt seem to like it back there either.

Unless these deals were our cue that the new 3mill man is now a top six forward. Which would shock no one here despite its ridiculousness.

Who knows how things will work out over the long sample size, but Tulsky had a couple of interviews this offseason where he mentioned that they were more aggressive than usual in targeting guys they saw as a fit for the team's style of play than they might have been in the past. That may have lead to moves that looked lackluster on the surface to a lot of folks, but could lead to the team as a whole playing Brindy style hockey as well as they possibly can. Robinson does feel like an absolute perfect fit for our style of play so far.

Really good scouting find so far. If he can keep it up (tall ask), I could see him pricing into a long term deal with us for a slight raise, or a decent raise for another team. Having not watched Robinson play, I figured he may be a 13th forward type guy.

The thing about him is that he fits the system better than others. As a wing he is required to bring zero creativity or depth to his game. He is asked to be fast and aggressive on the forecheck, play north/south and put pucks to the net or the point then be fast and aggressive on the back check. He’s big and doesn’t lose many battles. The fact he plays so simple plays to his advantage with us.

It’s hard to imagine Rod sitting him unless we need to get him some rest. Carrier and Robinson have spent their NHL careers playing Rod’s game for survival purposes, now they’re on a team that will reward them for it. He’ll cool down on offensive chances or just be infuriating because he will miss easy plays like Drury did around the net, but he’ll do the things Rod asks of him. Rod seems to prefer to keep everyone as is as much as possible. Even when the blender gets put in service for a week or two it’s likely they’ll go back.

It’ll be interesting if we pick up someone in the top six at the deadline, bumping someone else down. If it’s jr does he sit or take one of Robinson/Blake’s spots?
