This is actually my favorite move of the day. I liked this guy last year, he’s an ideal 4th liner. Great wheels and forechecker. This put us off to a good start in reshaping the bottom six. Overall my early thoughts are that the reshaping went sideways from there, but I’ll wait to see the big picture as I believe Tulsky when he says we’re not close to being done.

I bet you've heard of him but immediately wrote him off as Julia Robinson's less famous brother. This guy has been in the league for 5 years and I’ve never heard of him.
He’s a guy where if you think there should be more production you’re going to be annoyed, and because he’s fast it’s easy to be that way. He’s a fourth liner that’s moved a couple of times for a reason, there’s not much offense here. That’s fine for us because Rod requires zero offense from his bottom six. Cycle. Grind. Jam puck at goalies feet. Pass to the point then jam for a rebound. Get off. Our fourth line last season was weird, it was often interchangeable with the second. The forwards lacked definition as a group. Making the fourth line be that defensive grind line with an occasional goal almost by accident works for us, the speedier the better. Drury between these two may make a pretty annoying trio to play against. From what I've read, he's fast! ...and that's about it. Seems like he's our "rookie insurance" if one of the youngsters can't grab can't hold a spot
I bet Carrier ends up on the 3rd beside Staal for many years.. 4th will be Robinson/Drury/Lemieux or Jost is my guess. Would be nice if Suzuki finally earns a spot. Gettin' late for that kid, injuries aside. He’s a guy where if you think there should be more production you’re going to be annoyed, and because he’s fast it’s easy to be that way. Did you just promote Fast to the top six?I bet Carrier ends up on the 3rd beside Staal for many years.. 4th will be Robinson/Drury/Lemieux or Jost is my guess. Would be nice if Suzuki finally earns a spot. Gettin' late for that kid, injuries aside.
I had the same thought, but then where does Martinook go? They’re both lefties unless we’re having someone not play their strong side. Technically we do that sometimes but at forward the only player who had significant off side time was TT, who’s a true off side winger who needs that side to score points. Any other time that happened under Rod it was a short term needed for the moment thing. I think it generally matters very much to Rod that guys play their strong side up front, and in general to be honest. He’s made do at times with some off handed D when he had to but otherwise he doesnt seem to like it back there either.I bet Carrier ends up on the 3rd beside Staal for many years.. 4th will be Robinson/Drury/Lemieux or Jost is my guess. Who knows how things will work out over the long sample size, but Tulsky had a couple of interviews this offseason where he mentioned that they were more aggressive than usual in targeting guys they saw as a fit for the team's style of play than they might have been in the past. That may have lead to moves that looked lackluster on the surface to a lot of folks, but could lead to the team as a whole playing Brindy style hockey as well as they possibly can. Robinson does feel like an absolute perfect fit for our style of play so far.Robinson has been a pleasant surprise this year and has often been very noticeable in games. That pass to Necas last night was spot on.
Borg's off-season adds have been very good.
Or father of his also more famous daughter EmmaI bet you've heard of him but immediately wrote him off as Julia Robinson's less famous brother.
Yeah, Robinson looks phenomenal so far for my expectations. Just the eye test from what I see he makes great plays. His hustle and effort is exactly what we want in a 4th liner. Really good scouting find so far. If he can keep it up (tall ask), I could see him pricing into a long term deal with us for a slight raise, or a decent raise for another team. Having not watched Robinson play, I figured he may be a 13th forward type guy.Who knows how things will work out over the long sample size, but Tulsky had a couple of interviews this offseason where he mentioned that they were more aggressive than usual in targeting guys they saw as a fit for the team's style of play than they might have been in the past. As good as he looks as a fit, it wouldn't be the worst thing if by the time the dealine passes he's like a 12/13 forward plugging in and out of the lineup situationally. Of course, depending on what's acquired, it could be him staying in the lineup and someone like Drury or Roslovic getting knocked out of the lineup.Yeah, Robinson looks phenomenal so far for my expectations. The thing about him is that he fits the system better than others. As a wing he is required to bring zero creativity or depth to his game. He is asked to be fast and aggressive on the forecheck, play north/south and put pucks to the net or the point then be fast and aggressive on the back check. He’s big and doesn’t lose many battles. The fact he plays so simple plays to his advantage with us.As good as he looks as a fit, it wouldn't be the worst thing if by the time the dealine passes he's like a 12/13 forward plugging in and out of the lineup situationally. Plus he will cup check those who mess with our goalieRod's style fits Robinson's game to a T. He's fast and an agile skater. He's made for 1 on 1 defense as there aren't many who can skate by or around him. That alone will keep him in the lineup.
Early on, I felt he might find his way into the top 6 as we needed a big body on wing on that 2nd line. Looks like, for now, he's found his spot.
