Depth is only one factor that goes into making a desirable D.
A D that is deep but has no real substance "heading things up" so to speak will not stimulate the team to greater and greater heights of victory.

Also, you can't just go sending your D in full throttle, you have to probe around the other team's perimeters first and figure out where the soft spots are.
