This. I'm happy we should get home ice through out, but no matter who we get the match ups are tough in the east. Every. Single. Team.
Throughout the Metro. Doubtful they catch Florida. And while Florida may not make it out of the Atlantic gauntlet, I can't say they have any less of a chance than Carolina does of making it through the Metro gauntlet.

So...... its not out of the realm of possibility that Washington passes Pittsburgh in the standings, to the point where if they win their 2 games in hand, they do overtake them. Should that happen, all of Tampa, Boston, Washington, and Pitt would be within a point of each other in the standings, with Boston appearing to have the most difficult path the rest of the way.

Would not be unusual for Florida-Boston and Carolina-Pitt to be the first round matchups

Nah, just more evidence imo. I've seen what I believe are signs ever since they showed Aho on the bench during a game early in his rookie season diagramming a play to Staal; I'd have expected it the other way around.
I was being sarcastic, implying that it was the very opposite of a hot take. I guess Slavin has a chance, but everyone has presumed that Aho is the next captain for years.

Yeah, I like Pittsburgh as a matchup. We've been good against them of late, and our games also tend to be fast and intense but not overly physical. I'm sure the physicality would ramp up for the playoffs, but not so much so that we only have half our roster for round two like would probably happen matching up against Washington. I like our chances against the Caps as well, but I think we're pretty heavily bruised coming out of that series and it would make it a lot harder to make a deep run.

The way I want it to play out:

Round 1:
Panthers vs Bruins
Canes vs Pens
Rangers vs Caps
Leafs vs Lightning

Round 2:
Canes vs Caps
Panthers vs Lightning

Round 3:
Canes vs Lightning

Round 4:
Canes vs. any non-Colorado West team (for home ice, not particularly scared of the Avs)

I'd be fine playing the Rags over the Caps and I think we'd handle them pretty easily but I'd rather not have the chance of Shestyorkin being a God against us.

If these past few months are any indication, any goalie has a chance to be God against us

My thought is that Slavin is likely Staal's successor to the captaincy. He's been alternate captain for longer than Aho and is also 3 years older than him. I also think that the Canes will view him as a must-sign and may even willing to go the 8-year LTIR-at-the-end route to keep him in tow for the rest of his career.

Slavin is a perfect A, Aho is a better fit for the C.

I literally do not care who we face in the playoffs, because we will have to beat a bunch of good teams regardless, and this team is capable of doing that.

I literally do not care who the next captain is, because all of the likely options are very good choices.

It's such a good time to be a fan of this team.

I generally agree with this notion but playoff matchups can definitely play a factor in who wins the Cup/makes the Finals. Washington had some great teams that may have been able to win it all but they really struggled with Pittsburgh. Boston in 2019 had a very easy path to the Finals ultimately, avoiding 2 teams that very well may have beaten them and who matched up well against them in Tampa and Washington.

On paper us playing Pittsburgh, the Caps, and then the Leafs seems a lot easier to me than playing Bolts round 1, then Rangers then Florida...

Of course no matter how it plays out we just need to take care of business and beat multiple very good teams but matchups can factor in as well.

Woah that's not how this works. You develop strong opinions, never back off them, and feign ignorance down the line when people point out how f***ing stupid you were in the first place. Do you even HFB, bro?

You say that now, but when we get co-captains Tony DeAngelo and newly signed backup goalie Alex Georgiev...

Did you see the explanation that The Athletic gave for TDA's dismissal from NYR yesterday? Apparently after a game in which Georgiev gave up 4 goals (his 4th or so such game in about 2 weeks) Tony basically said 'hey, how bout you make a f***ing save' to him, which prompted AG to punch him, which eventually got Tony dismissed. And this story was confirmed by multiple players to be true.

First of all... yes, my thoughts exactly.

Second of all... I'm still scratching my head on how this event turned into 'TDA is a toxic neo-Nazi'
It didn't. It was the last straw for the Rangers organization and one they could use to get rid of him that would look better than "a bunch of our fans on twitter who have season tickets don't like his politics and history, so we caved to them".

Yes, which actually matches what the Rangers cryptically said, which was "He was on a zero tolerance policy, and he violated it."

In retrospect, maybe we should have had the same policy for Peters?

Let's also not forget that TDA hadn't yet learned to keep his political opinions to himself, and in especially polarized times, making yourself persona non grata to half your fan base is bad for the org's business and for your own career.

No matter what your opinions are, athletes that have strong political opinions jeopardize their future earnings. "Republicans buy sneakers too."

It seems that TDA has learned that lesson. Good for him, and good for us.
