Missed this one but glad to see a W and a lot of goals. Someone talk me off the ledge re Rantanen though. See reports of injury and us maybe trading him pre-deadline…?

I saw on the F4W board that one of the Canes announcers made an Iron Mike Sharpe reference, does anyone have a clip of this???

I don't but I'm sure that's something Tripp Tracy would say
I don’t have a clip, but it was Maniscalco.

Something like “Iron Mike Sharpe claims to be Canada’s greatest athlete, but I think Jarvis may disagree.”

The insiders are desperate to have something to talk about during 4 Nations and in the final days before the trade deadline.

They’re grasping at straws for clicks.

How about this:

"It's obviously bullshit"

Did that help?

Friedman doesn’t seem like one to make things up. If he says that’s an option that’s been floated out there, I don’t doubt that it’s a possibility. Granted, I think we’d need to get absolute confirmation from Rantanen that he has no intention of signing if we were going to deal him, and I don’t think we’ll get that confirmation that early in his stint here.

I think the possibility they trade him prior to deadline to be low, but not altogether BS. If they knew he had no intention of signing prior to 3/7, it’d be malpractice to not explore a trade. Rantanen at 50% retention, with Chicago already retaining too, would come with a cap hit less than $3M. Contending teams would be falling over themselves to add him at that cap hit, even as a pure rental.

With what they paid to get him, they had to have some sense of his appetite to sign with CAR. I think in a recent podcast, Seravalli said as much - that the Canes would have been on his short list if he made it to UFA and the Canes knew that prior to the trade. I’m still optimistic on him extending and doubt they have hard line in the sand on 3/7, but…

They now have less than a month to gauge where he and his agent are at and the player will be off at an international tournament for 1/2 that time. They need to really get down to business these next few weeks and see if an extension is possible. If it’s not, then I’d be all for them moving him rather than watch another high profile rental walk.

Also, if Friedman is putting it out there on multiple occasions, I think it is a bit more than just speculation. That said, I still think they 100% will try their darndest to get him signed.
