I just saw this, and given it doesn't quite fit in with the News thread and probably is worthy of its own away from the generic baseball thread, I figured it deserves its own. Looks like the new front office hires were done not just with an eye on the Canes and the renovation to the arena complex, but also targeting a potential MLB franchise.

To see this bid now fully backed by an existing sports franchise, it does make things a bit more serious. This is something that very well could happen.

yep, it's weird in that NC is a great state for the sport, but the two biggest markets don't exactly make the most sense for it at the highest level. Charlotte is saturated sports wise, and the corporate support in Raleigh probably isn't the right fit.

No but I dig this, and hope they are NL, so I can pull for them all year in case for some outlandish reason they meet the charlatan Brian Cashman's Yankees in the World Series

Wake County has a shade more folks than Mecklenburg County. I'm not going to research it but I'd bet there are more folks with in an hour of Raleigh than an hour of Charlotte.

The following numbers represent more-or-less concentric circles — the city proper, the city plus nearby suburbs, and then the city plus farther flung suburbs.

Raleigh
City - 482,295
Metro - 1,509,231
CSA - 2,368,947

Charlotte
City - 911,311
Metro - 2,805,115
CSA - 3,387,115

Any way you look at it, Charlotte is substantially larger.

In all fairness there are people IN Charlotte Metro that are an hour from Charlotte...depending on which side and how bad traffic is at that particular moment
