Man, I'm glad I'm able to have fun and believe and not be crushed if it doesn't happen. Damn bunch of sticks in the mud wrapped in wet blankets.

I allowed myself the indulgence of looking at the standings this morning. My non-fancy observation is that if everyone picks up points through game 82 at the same pace they have over their last ten games, we would tie Tampa for 8th with 92. Boston and NYI would finish with 90, Philly with 84. Granted, the numbers won't land exactly there because the value of the last ten for predicting the future is basically worthless, but the point is it's not impossible to sneak in.

We still have a tough stretch coming, though, and we saw what happened the last time we ran into one. If we pass that test and take advantage of the three games we're supposed to win (call it 11 points over the next seven games), I'll get my hopes up. Game 80 against the Islanders is the one I have circled on my calendar. If we can come out of the CBJ-DAL-PIT-MIN stretch with 88 points or so, and if nobody else pulls away from the pack, the chance to step on another team's head could put us in control of our destiny. It's certainly a tall order and I'm only about 50% sure we could do it, but if we do, I'll be really excited in two weeks.

Meh...I don't know why some people are seemingly upset because some of us don't think the Canes are going to make the playoffs. I haven't truly thought the Canes were going to make the playoffs at any time in the last 4 years (including before the season started this year). Doesn't mean I'm not enjoying the ride and rooting for them to win. :dunno:

Is it any different than the people saying we should wait until certain games are complete or not to get emotionally invested?:dunno: We all just say how we feel, and sometimes we measure each other against that, right or wrong.

Fair point. Like I said, I don't see any problem with talking about it even if I don't think it's likely. The difference though is saying "let's wait" vs. calling people sticks in the mud. That's a bit different to me.

Wow that's some world class "conditional optimism" right there.

My goal for this season, after it became clear where we really were as a team, was 87 points. I just want this team to show continued improvement.

Now next season....if we don't make the playoffs.....I'm burning the ****ing house down!!!:naughty:

Heh, I guess so. I want to believe, but experience has taught me not to.

I'm just working through what it will take for me to allow myself to be optimistic because I can see it going in either direction.

Bojangles, NOON!

And IIRC from one of the workout threads, you said you have a bad back, so I know where to hit. :naughty:

Let's make it Cook out, since no one ever lets you go.

My back basically means if you get me on the ground, I'm ****ed. :naughty:
