How is this even possible...gotta be a glitch in the matrix.

Solid defensive system that works well, except the occasional breakdown in coverage, and most importantly poor goal tending. They take a lot of shots that are easy to stop, or block, are kept to the parameters, and have no net front presence. I would add that being on the small side prevents them from driving the net, and playing in the "dirty" areas. Staal can often get in these areas but flubs a shot, or tries the staal-around that never works. I think it did the other night, but the percentages don't favor continuing to try it. To name a few things.

All of your points are valid. I think you might be missing the most glaring thing though...just plain lack of talent. We have 2 guys that could be considered consistent threats (Skinner and Aho). We have a lot of guys that are marginal NHLrs/bottom six(at best) players in Ryan, McGinn, PDG, Nestrasil, Nordstrom, etc... I know, I'm beating the dead horse.

I thought that was implied. Yeah, if you had 3 words to describe the majority of the problem in a nutshell, lack of talent would be it.

I mean you can`t hate on this game, we played well, took shots from good positions, just few mistakes and with skill level what Tampa has they can score on them easily. I think they got very lucky vs us last night.

I think you can`t blame any goals on Lack as well tonight, maybe only last one.

As others mentioned, if we got better goalie and one good top6 forward, and good bottom six with bigger guys who can as well score some points (like PDG, Stalberg), I think this team could be very good.

Hanifin has been good lately, not only in offensive zone, but defense as well.
Dalhbeck looks good for 3rd D pair.
Lindy has been awesome for long time now.

I don`t think we need to be negative, you can see that we are building through draft and that takes time. There is no need to overpay for guys like Ladd and Okposo and others who are just not worth it. This offseason is big, we can make few deals, draft few more guys, and next season some minor league players might be ready to take a step up.

Building only through the draft only works if you get a superstar (or two) like Crosby or Kane. Most teams that "build through the draft" make a couple big trades with their picks or prospects or free agent signings along the way, too.

Drafting well is important. But there's not any winning team in the league that has built their core only through the draft. You can't build a winning team on the draft alone- eventually, you have to make a move in free agency or in the trade market- and since we are not a free agent destination, that means cutting a deal with someone.

I'm tired of the be patient and just keep drafting narrative. We've drafted well. A lot of those guys are playing in the NHL now, and reasonably to incredibly well. We're still not winning, and it's because we don't have the high end talent that we're not going to find in the draft without a top pick or some form of magic.

I agree about making a deal in offseason, I think I said that.

I just wanted to point out what GMRF is doing, and I think with him in charge we will be good soon. This offseason will be big for every team and especially for us.
