I’m with Anton Dubi … looked like as soon as he realized it, he dropped it.

*However* if you make a play with a broken stick I assume it’s penalty.
Agreed on both points. I’m not all that mad about the call because it is technically a penalty. Just bad luck in the sense that he didn’t have a chance to notice it was broken before he made a play for the puck.

Oh well, shit happens. This is still a very good team. Not without its flaws, but still very good.

Seriously not the end of the world, yes the PP sucks the bounces didn't go the Canes way down a forward almost all night (Bumper on PP1 at that) some absolutely awful calls agaist them... first game in 17 without a point they MaxPac expected within a week and still #2 in points and points %

You can't be mad at the call by the letter of the law you can however be annoyed because you know dang well if the situation had been reversed that doesn't get called on NY....

Seriously at what point is enough enough about the PP. We are f***ing awful and it is going to kill us in the playoffs. We have a great PK, we are excellent 5v5, but we are so goddamn bad with the man advantage that it legitimately is a major concern despite our record and our place in the standings.

When the f*** is someone going to start putting heat on this coaching staff for this failure.
You can’t have this reaction every time the PP fails. They scored 3 PP goals 2 games ago. They scored 1 to tie the game last game. They’ve been operating at about 25% on the PP since thanksgiving. That’s above league average by a fair amount. Noesen was missing tonight so it got all f***ed up because they had Jarvis’s tiny ass in front.

We had plenty of chances on the PP to put this one away and we tripped on our own dick. Make no mistake, our terrible PP is the difference tonight.
I think they’re just hoping Patches will magically fix everything on the PP, which of course isn’t a strategy.

It’s been the single biggest killer of this team for the past few playoffs now.

Putting Jarvis in that position is a coaching issue... I agree losing Noesen Hurt..

Things get evened up in the playoffs. They just do. So a team like NYR or Boston (the two teams I think are the worst matchup for us) can ramp up the physicality, maybe cross the line a few times and take some penalties, and have complete confidence that it'll get evened up over the course of the game. From there, they can use their superior PPs to tip the balance. The PP has to get fixed if we're gonna go anywhere.

How I long for this league to call penalties like the NFL or soccer (and not like basketball), where they actually just call the penalties that happen and there isn't a clear and distinct correlation between penalties taken and penalties received.

At the end of the day:

Bad game by Burns that cost goals
Bad game by Koch
Bad game by the PP
Bad third period
A few bad bounces on the PK
Maybe questionable penalties

And they were right there in the game. Just turn the page to the next one.

Scored first and bad a lead going into the 3rd... You don't lose those too often, but it happens with bad goaltending and special teams.

That broken stick penality was complete BS. Yes, technically a penality, but Marty didn't know he broke his stick, he barely played the puck, and instantly dropped it when he did realized it was broken. It must have been less than 2 seconds from when it was broken to when it was dropped. Given the circumstances and time of the game it was a bad call, and something I doubt would have been called the other way.
