I feel like this pick is a no brainer. Habs should take whoever of Smith, Carlson, or Mitchkov falls to them.

I do believe all are realistic possibilities and would be pumped to get any of them.

I dont think 2-5 will go as planned
one team will upset the list

Ducks are taking a forward. I really doubt they reach for a dmen at #2.
Columbus said they were taking a center, so one of Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith.
SJ are the mystery box.
Habs are picking a non-Russian that fall from the top 5 or Leonard.

On The Athletic podcast with Godin and Basu, Arpon said he watched a lot of Michkov's games in the KHL, VHL & MHL and his assessment was that his ceiling is really high, but his floor is really low.

He explains that when he has the puck, he can do things that not many players can do. But when he doesn't have the puck, he found him non-committal. Like he was disinterested and only needed to have the puck in order to activate.

He mentioned that Bedard has a high compete level. So if he's not scoring, he's still competing and battling. He said he didn't see that with Michkov.

He did specify that if the Canadiens take him, he can understand why (very high ceiling). But that if they don't take him, he can understand that, too.

On this topic.. f*** their podcast.

You do a french podcast about Michkov and the draft.
Then an English pod about Jordan Harris..
then you do another french podcast and the draft.

Way to f*** over your english listeners.

I trust management to make a good pick with the 5OA, even if it's not one of the guys that I want.
But man am I ever craving a high-end skill guy up front. Someone who can carry the puck and isn't afraid to be creative and add some offensive flair to get the Bell center on their feet.
If they don't think Smith, Mitchkov, or Benson can be that guy for us I trust them with whoever they go with... I just hope we get it right.
Suzuki, CC, Slaf, Dach + a successful 5OA pick can set us up for a long time!

compete is high on Kent's list of players. I totally agree...
Look at nostrils, can score and skate but sucks at heart.

Although to be fair, if Hughes was picking 1st in 2016, he would take Matthews also.

But I know what you mean, skill can only take you so far if you don't have compete level.

Translation for non-French speaking folk:

It's the first time this happens to me, but after I had an interview with Dvorsky, he shakes my hand to thank me for the interview. And he asks "What do you think? Would the Habs fans be happy if I was taken by Montreal at the draft?"

I wouldn't be happy with him at 5th, but if we trade down to 7-10 and grab a few more assets then I wouldn't hate it.

They would not except for like 3 people.

Yeah
He definitely saw everything that happened last year in MTL's draft, and he probably wants a piece of it lol, probably bugs Slaf about it lol

He might be very good. But I just don’t get Leonard. He doesn’t have a classic package at all. Do you know a comparable to Leonard in the last 40 years?
What’s the gold standard for a player like that in the NHL?

-winger
-A good skater but not a big puck possession player
-Scores goals more than assists(since novice has never had more assists than goals ever)
-Good shooter adept at picking up junk around the net
-OK stickhandler
-Perhaps in the 5’11 to 6’0 range (we’ll know this week)
-Chases body checks

What are we talking about here???
Anderson

I've heard some question Will Smith's compete as well.

It was interesting that Hughes mentioned compete, regardless of speed, size, and skill, as a common characteristic of all recent cup winning teams.

I thought about him. Their skating is similar. But Anderson is a crash the net player all the time. Leonard is better at picking up loose pucks in the slot or finishing a pass play. Anderson is bigger…. I don’t know how much people realize it’s hard to find an NHL player with his package.

"Sorry, but no thanks. Have fun in Detroit though."
