I don't think he will always be bad. But the hype was stupid and the comparisons to Jagr beyond ridiculous. People here talking about 90+ points potential. He will never hit that. His best seasons will be in the 60 point range with most years 40-50 points. Useful player in other ways, hopefully.
No one actually knows. Way too soon to act like you know his points ceiling.

funny , knowing that Jagr himself made the comparison when he saw him play. Comparaison isn’t only future production, but more about the way to play or the style.
But who’s that Jagr to talk about hockey player?

They don't play alike either. Jagr was probably just being nice since a 1st overall from Slovakia is kind of a big deal.

Use your eyes, do you think they are similar at all?

Who cares?

Gretzky constantly says the next 1st overall will be better than him.

Ex players blowing smoke, or player comparisons are all useless exercises that hold no weight.

If anyone is mad that they were billed the next Jagr and aren't seeing it, then they really only have themselves to blame there.

We got billed Shane Wright is the next Patrice Bergeron but people like Craig Button, no one should have bought that nonsense either.

You said Jagr said it because Slaf was the 1st overall. I just shared that he said it during the year, way before the draft.

Plus Jagr was talking about their puck protection talent at the same age not that Slaf would have a better career lol.

If Slaf doesn’t improve his IQ and his awareness he will be a good 3rd liner. I was leaning Wright on draft day but would have been happy with Cooley who could end up being the best player.
And Wright may never even establish himself in the nhl… Projecting these early bloomers is tricky it seems, and I am including Michkov and our own big boy. These guys are so young, it’shard to know if we’re seeing a (sub-nhl) finished product or someone halfway there that will progress into a significant nhl player.

You look at a Svechnikov or McKinnon in their draft year (or now Bedard) and it’s pretty obvious they’ll pan out.

Even though the Habs didn't draft any Russian prospects last year they still traded for 2 in Dadonov and Gurianov so it's not like they're 100% avoiding Russian born players. Although Dadonow didn't last long and Gurianov is probably gone as well but they still traded for both. :)

Unfortunately I still think the Habs will pass on Michkov if he's there at 5 though and I hope the media and fans rip the entire Habs organization a new one for passing on him and Michkov comes to the NHL in a couple of years and turns into an elite offensive NHL superstar.

No no no don't kill the narrative!

Michkov will pan out. His hockey iq is way too high to not to.

As for that Habs-Russian thing, fans had no problem with Kovalev and Markov, au contraire. Both were extremely popular. Plus Montreal is a great city for Russians who don't want to feel too disoriented. Same weather as Moscow, European-like vibe, etc.

I don't buy that this franchise doesn't want Russians. I think they're a great fit.

Dadonov and Gurianov were only a kind of ship in. They would have give weber to Vegas for free if they could. Same for gurianov. Dallas needed to shed salary. Picking a player with the 5th pick a russian player, I guess Molson isnt too much for it.

I’d add that there’s been more than a dozen years that Russians can be had at a discount. Montreal fans understood the situation and never pushed to get that high skilled Russian in the high First Round. They’re only freaking this season because the skill discrepancy between Michkov and the next guy is insurmountable .

he said that the long before the draft. I think it was his coach that told the story, it was his impression, but he didn't tell it to Jagr just to see what he was going to say.

The Jagr we all remind isn't the Jagr at the junior level. And the comparaison was about both in the junior of course.

Come on ! tell doctor Zuki you were wrong, you will feel better after

Wow !

Was Kovalev signed for 3 years in Russia as a draftee ?
Was Russia in a war ?
You do know that Putin - a big big hockey fan, could blocked anytime the players to go play in the NHL ?

It isn't that simple, they have to be careful , because of the war , because of Putin , and because the only person that could tell he will play in the NHL after his present contract is Michkov himself, but i would put my hands in the fire that he doesn't know either right now.
