Confirmed with Link: Canadiens Sign Tyler Thorpe to 3-Year ELC (2025-26) + Signs AHL PTO

Laval has been stacked this year, too. They didn't send any of their prospects to the ECHL. They won't do it with Thorpe, either.

Montreal is affiliated with 3R, but they don't run that team. Of course if they send a prospect there, they'll give directives. However, keeping the prospects in Laval means they are hands on in their development. Adam Nicholas and Scott Pellerin, Paul Byron, and Alex Burrows can all get on the ice and work with them, as well as do video sessions.

Also, this whole they need to dominate at a lower level or else they're not ready is not really an honest approach. The guy still put up 27 goals and 52 pts in 68 GP this year and had 3 pts in 5 playoff games. It's not because he's not a PPG that he needs to start at a lower level in the pros.
He wasn't on the 1st line was he? I believe he was 2nd line and PP.

To be fair it's not like TR is that long of a drive from MTL but I do understand all your points. Kidney would have benefited from time in ECHL last year.

It's not a question of distance, it's a question of him having direct access to the development staff and the facilities.

Kidney could have benefited, but there's another example. If they didn't send Riley down, why would they send Thorpe?

Also with the AHL veteran rule you need an influx of bodies for the bottom lines as you will need to let go players like Arsenault when they lose their eligibility.

Injuries last year, means you need bodies in line up. Last year you had guys like Gignac, Stephens, Roy playing in NHL which opened up spots in Laval

Give this guy a couple poutines, a day, he's to skinny for 6'5, we need some byfuglien material, dont quote me ik buf was a defense

And yet, before injuries and call ups started to happen, Kidney was not sent to 3R. He stayed in Laval.

At the start of the year, Kidney and Davidson were scratched and would take turns going in and out of the line-up. So while they were barely playing early on, they still kept them in Laval. Never sent them to 3R.

I mean you be right on managements preference of keeping guys in Laval vs 3R. Just seems pointless since such a big deal was made when we got a ECHL affiliate in QC

He had a really good camp. I see good potential for him on the bottom lines. God knows we need some bangers up front.

Look at it this way, the ECHL is mostly players who will get called up to Laval if the Rocket have call ups and injuries.

For example, this year, they called up players like Sévigny, Nijhoff, Novak, Beaucage, and Jandric. Basically, players signed to AHL deals who will be sent down to the ECHL because Montreal/Laval want their prospects and true AHL vets like ABB, Dauphin, Wotherspoon, and Arseneau to be in the AHL.

I'm not saying that no prospect could benefit from some time in the ECHL because they could get minutes there. But from what this new regime has shown so far with the more complete development staff, they prefer keeping their prospects where they could work with them day in and day out.

I mean Flo had above a PPG compared to Thorpe who was well under that mark this year. Points aren't everything but you still expect a certain level of production when player is older than his peers.
Centers usually get more points than wingers.

The Habs actually rarely send a guy with an NHL contract there, but I'm not saying ECHL is impossible, We'll see what kind of camp he has.

I feel for you man....that was not the best day to sign a contract....lolllll

He needs to work on his skating a lot from the @montreal videos I saw of him. Him signing means having top quality staff available to help him

Considering he's like 6'4 or 6'5, he has a good shot and he plays physical, that's a solid bet. I don't think he'll be close to as good as Floran though
