That's for sure a team that has to learn to play with a lead. But they are right where HuGo predicted. As for Montembeault, looking at recent goalies signatures, it's expected that a 3.1M$ goalie is not stealing all the games.
Montambeault had a rough night and Woll stole the show. As for Montie being out goalie of the future… we’ll see. He’s not Carey Price and isn’t going to lead us the way he did. But we’ll have much better clubs out front so the question will be more along the lines of - is he good enough?

Dobbes is here, Fowler’s on the way… lots of time to figure this out. In the meantime he’s fine.

That's a worst loss than I was expecting when I went to bed after 3-3. I actually expected OT...

When I went to bed, the high danger chances were 12 for the Habs and 6 for the Leafs. It finished 17-13. Expected goals were 3.73 for the Habs vs 3.63 for the Leafs by the end of the game. Monty let in twice the goals he should have. That's a putrid night for a goalie.

For people saying Monty has been good this year, he's also been very bad. He's been replaced 4 times in the first half of the season (last time in December) and looks like this should have been game #5, but since it's a b2b Marty probably decided against it. He's been very inconsistent.

People should expected them to lose more, I said it a few days ago, they were on the road for 16 games, that doesn't leave much time for "life distractions" impacting the players.

Finally, leave one inch to the Leafs and they will always rally. Habs forgot that, and MSL needs to fix PP2 or just play PP1, I don't know, goes with the next thing:

Gallagher is running on fumes, Dvorak haven't been great all season long, but it didn't show that much when Gallagher was playing well on that line along Andy. Even Dvo's faceoffs were probably mostly thanks to Gally (faceoffs wins are awarded to the team who win possession).

Yeah, Gallagher can't handle the pace plus the travel. He wasn't bad at the beginning of this run after the Christmas break, but he's wearing down. The younger players or the better skating players (Matheson, Anderson) are able to play through the tiredness.

Gallagher isn't an every day player anymore particularly during times where we're playing 4 games in 6 days every week. The guy looks exhausted before every shift & can't get off the ice unless there is a stoppage.

Let’s just say the Four Nations will be a welcome break for him.

Part of being a "player-friendly" organization is not being so hasty with roster moves -- I figure their approach is: players are friends and good vibes matter especially when you're not a veteran, winning, heavy team. Until we raise our standards and expectations for results, I don't think we'll see Hughes cut players until they really have to. See how they handled Primeau. A contender wouldn't have given him so much rope. A contender probably wouldn't have given Dach so many opportunities and so much TOI either. Maybe a contender would've fired MSL after the horror-show to start the season. A 'rebuilding' team can afford to tolerate some of this.
Sorry to Pezz but Laval isn’t that far away and he can actually be of use to us in the AHL.

I like Pezz too but I hated how they kept useless Wideman around for years just because he was funny

I swear some people are just rubbing their hands together waiting in the wings for a loss to create drama. Typical Habs board with the negativity after every loss where the sky is falling. [MOD]

Yup. And it’s especially annoying considering the run the Habs just had. They’ve been playing very well since December and progressing well since November.

One bad game and every is flooding the zone with their favorite negative narrative. And it wasn’t even that bad of a game. The Habs still schooled the leafs for two periods

The goalie coach, has to figure out why, Monty has 3=4 decent games, and then a bad one.....but when he is bad, he goes real bad. I think the mental toughness goalies need, to forget about a bad one, that Price had, Monty does not...........when a softie goes in, it's only a matter of minutes before another goes in.........
The 3rd period last night, for Monty usually happens in the 1st, and there are times they can come back or try, but when you lose your mind in the 3rd it's lights out.

They have been on a great roll, and are doing much better than most of us thought...........but there are 2 teams I hate to lose to.......TO and BOS

He is averaging less than 5 minutes per game, playing him is just getting other guys tired. MSL clearly does not want to play him so i don't get why they are not calling someone up.
Agreed..........they need another body to come up from Laval.
HuGo........you are up!!

I'd like if I could, but I can reply with this :thumbu:

After Laval's stinker of a game last night, Hughes may be thinking there may not be a better option than Pezzetta right now.

The goalie coach isn’t going to change the fact that Montie is what an average netminder looks like.

We’re so used to Carey Price that we’ve forgotten how normal goalies play. He’s never going to be a star player. He can steal us some games but you’re going to have some bad nights.

Tough loss but it's not all doom and gloom , we got goalied HARD , I'd also rather give the points to the Laughs than some intra divisional opponent in the mix with us

Gally needs to be the 13th forward next season, he should have been this season even. But the best would be to just buy him out next June, but I doubt that's happening.

I feel like he wasn't that bad (mentally) the previous seasons, it's like he's a better goalie for the rest of the game if he gets shot at 15+ times in the first period. Then he let in softies and the defense in front of him mentally collapse.

Funny thing is that I think we played a solid 2nd period. Had at least as many quality scoring chances as the Leafs and yet, we lost 0-2 and allowed them back into the game.

That said, you probably don't want to give up an odd man rush when up by 3 goals. It's the other team's job to make itself vulnerable to counterattacks.
Really? For me the second was when we started running on fumes and cheating. We dominated the Leafs with our fore check in the first and then played a passive second. They started gaining momentum coming out of their zone and I sensed that if we gave up one it would be hard to swing the momentum.
It should be noted the Leafs players who got them back in the game were Mann and Robertson not Matthew Marner or Nylander. Three of our four lines started losing the battle in the second and that obviously snowballed in the third.

I was actually surprised at how well we started the game given it seems like a month before we could finally open our suitcases. Someone posted how Guhle was talking about how nice it was to be at home and finally unpack. I quipped at the time WHAT Marty doesn't have us sequestered. :sarcasm:
