Confirmed with Link: Canadiens re-sign Andreas Martinsen

Why is there a discussion about this guy at 650K$? Worst case he is placed on waivers and go down to the AHL with no impact on the cap. A simple depth move.

I think the main reason Martinsen has about 20 pages on his extension is because not much else is going on in Habs land.

If you need insurance, you hand out PTO. Signing useless plugs to a one-way deal in early June is counter-productive if the desired goal is insurance.

No it shows some loyalty toward a professional hockey player and allows him to settle his family and affairs. With Habs or Laval.

Look. We're all upset with mb to some degree. But I will say that he treats pro hockey players well. He does. And that gets around the league. From bubble guys to guys like rads.

Yeah I know. Subby. He did give him 9 mill remember. With a battle true. But in general as much as I'm pissed off with mb he treats players well. That is important.

If mac and dlr out perform him he still knows his salary and where his kids go to school. And he's close for a call up.

Habs should have moved their ahl team closer years ago. It's a great move.

No drama. The guy will play for laval and help the team.

And mac is full time hab anyway next year. He's ready.

And because we don't trust that management judgment and think that he is NOT going to be send anywhere else but on the starting roster.

Martinsen is 10X the skater Darche ever was.

Darche was a legit scorer, specialising in garbage goals around the net, not a no impact grinder like people remember. His production per minute with Montreal was very strong. He gets slagged on here constantly but he was a valuable player most of his time in Montreal. The coach might have liked him too much, but he got results.

Martinsen has sub-Blunden levels of offense. Who cares how fast you can skate if you have no puck skills whatsoever.

Darche was a pretty good grinder. Pretty good 4th liner who could help on a 3rd line if need. A Flynn with more energy, better size and better at fore check from what i can remember. Problem is he was already well over 30 when we got him and when he was younger NHL teams wanted goon on a 4th line. The guy would have a better career in today's NHL. IMO he was better than Flynn. The other problem is we also used him on a 2nd line with Plekanec his last year here. This role was well over his skills set and he struggled a lot.

Darche had about 2 seasons worth of being about 3rd line level quality, offensive zone specialist. The PP in particular benefited from his skills around the net (what most people don't appreciate is that net presence is a skill, sending a big oaf to do it doesn't get results).

Of course this was the peak of his career that he fell from fast, but this is the kind of depth guy you want to find to fill lower roster spots.

Flynn is more a guy that does everything at a boarderline NHL level. That's more useful as a 13th guy becuase you can throw him into the lineup with a sudden injury at be fine.

Martinsen plays the run around and hit people after they pass the puck role. Those guys have minimal value on the ice and are almost as extinct as the goon. The good teams in the league are finding that the value is getting guys who can play to fill the depth roles.

Define pro hockey players. From what I have seen is he is anything but professional to them. Only scrubs get his respect while talent gets short shrift. If anything he has no idea what to do with talent and has a need to punish them for some kind of loathing of them???

Its puzzling he hardballs good players while giving piles of cash and respek to 'veterens' and grinders. Shaw vs chucky and he chooses 30 point guy over 60 point guy.

It does seem like he's got a soft spot for depth players and a bit of an edge in dealing with talented ones... Perhaps he hasn't separated himself from his mindset as a player?

I heard on 690 one of the guests that Bergevin signed Martinsen to save face for getting ripped off on the Andreghetto deal..LOL

Sounds legit.

First few games, I thought he'd be useful. He was hitting, seemed like he could chip in offensively. Then all we got was more Dwight King, and it was hard to tell.

No idea about him based on his small sample size. Maybe Julien has a role to play him in. It's such a minor move, that might as well keep him around. Worst case scenario, he plays when we need some toughness on the boards. He's not the worst at puck retrieval, and plus...dat tan.
