Confirmed with Link: Canadiens re-sign Andreas Martinsen

It's a $675,000 contract? What's your issue with it? He likely plays half his games in the AHL/NHL. You don't think were not going to sign PTO contracts as well?

?!

The dude is bad, don't give him a contract and move on. Pretty simple really.

Yeah yeah, it's only 650k, sooo cheap. There's no downside but there's no upside either.

Clearly the Habs think there's something there with Martinsen, I really don't see the harm in having him as a 13/14th forward. Someone to put out there against boston and let him run people over. Either it works out or it doesn't but management has been pretty good at finding unknown players and getting something decent out of them.

I liked him in his first couple of games, where he was running people over. But then, he disappeared for a long stretch and wasn't as physical anymore. This is the problem, he's just not consistent in the part of his game that he's being counted upon and he can't afford to go on stealth mode and expect to stay at the NHL level.

This is not accurate as he averaged 3 hits per game in 9 regular season games and got 9 hits in 2 PO games. He was throwing the body pretty consistently...

I liked this guy. He can fight and is a decent skater with a bit of skill. Might be the kind of Guy Claude Julien will enjoy being able to ice. Why not?

It appeared to me that he showed much more intensity in his early games, moreso than the rest. Just my recollection without the benefit of further checking.

Because there's no upside. Its just another pointless move to add to the long list of pointless moves done by Bergie.

It's a 13th forward!!!.....they are paid to sit there and fill in once in a while. Players with upside are either in the AHL logging tons of minutes or in the actual lineup with the big club. Get a grip man, you're complaining about the size of the ice cubes in your water!

The guy can skate, hit, create a bit of offence and pot in a few goals.......where's the tragedy here?

I have the same recollection in terms of the impact his hits had. However what did make an impression on me was when he was on the 4th line with McCarron and Mitchell/Ott. Martins end and McCarron were real good on the forecheck. They would consistently use their size to make it hard on the opposition's defense. And they were able to create a few chances. That is something I noticed and liked when they were together.

There is no tragedy here other than your poorly woven strawman.

You need to get a grip, if the guy can skate, hit, create a bit of offense and pot in a few goals... then he's not a 13th fwd. He's a ****ing regular by that definition.

I called the move pointless... because its neither good or bad. Martinsen sucks at hockey but he probably "won't play much" and he can easily be "buried in the minor" thus it was necessary to sign him on June 5th because player like that are such a rare commodity. Just another Bergevin's special...before the next batch of Bergie's special at the dead line.

He had a great first game and then it all went south after that. Maybe too many games in the stands ?

I agree with that take. Avs fan had the same opinions. Lets also be honest, there is a reason why the worst team in the league had no issues trading him. He is a fringe NHLer, is paid like one and is just another in Bergy goal to collect em all - pokemon style

Says who? How are people able to dismiss that signing by saying HE'S THE 13TH FORWARD!!!! Have you seen the contract? Are all players signed under 700k, by definition an automatic 13th forward? What if they think he's not? What if they think he's the 12th forward? What if they are going to give him as much ice as possible to not look stupid on that Ghetto-Martinsen trade, especially if Ghetto starts the way he ended? We are being bashed because we don,t agree and we are told to shut up 'cause we don't know yet how he will be used and somehow you do? Without the team being done yet? Having a bad player on the team is bad 'cause of the possibility that they think he's good...

^This^

Really just the illusion of actually doing something, whilst doing nothing at all...

It's a depth move. Relax. He's going to push McCarron and DLR to play harder and injuries always happen. The issue we had in the playoffs was in our top 6, not our bottom 6.

Wait till September and if you feel we don't have a better roster, then yeah, go all crazy about how bad we are. Until then, lets not be premature about our off season evaluations.

same story ever year,

Yep.

But .... but ... he is the 13th forward. Same excuse every year. AT this point i think we will have 10 13th forward next season. Next thing we will know is Martinsen will play around 60 games so more like 4th line player.

If he plays in the AHL fine. But i'll believe it when i see it.

No he is not. People said that of Flynn every **** year to defend this inept management. Yet every ***** season Flynn player well over 40 games. A 13th forward should not play that much he doesn't have the skills to.

Injuries......and let's not kid ourselves, when it comes to the fwd position, their wasn't much last year in St. John's

Then we can argue back and forth about a 12th fwd

Yeah injuries....to himself to. How many games would he have had if he would not have been injured?

He was an extra last year......I'm fully expecting Hudon to be on the team this season, and add McCarron as a full timer and I really don't see him in the starting line up next fall.

Mitchell
McCarron
Shaw
Byron
Hudon
Flynn (god I hope not)
UFA that will surely be signed for botto 6

7 players right there and I didn't even mention Martinsen. Anyways, I actually don't mind the player, I'm completely fine with this signing as long as Bergevin balances it out with top 6 moves.

Why is there a discussion about this guy at 650K$? Worst case he is placed on waivers and go down to the AHL with no impact on the cap. A simple depth move.
