I think it was pretty much confirmed that drouin will be on the point with Weber on the PP

I'm being facetious. We have put European signings in our top 6 for years and they barely ever do anything.

Expecting Jerabek to be anything, is so premature.

And while we have 8M$ sleeping, the problem with Markov wasn't the number of years...it was the money.

That's probably the smart thing. I just wish the "Bergevin is definitely going to spend that money before the season starts" hot takes die.

Reported Markov was asking for 2 years at $6M and towards the end, said that he would take a 1 year deal. So I'm guessing this was north or $6M? Anybody figure out what Markov signed for in the KHL yet?

I wanted Markov back but I wanted Radulov back more. I also want a top 2 center even more than Radulov. Markov has been great for us but he runs out of gas towards the end of the year and we have to watch his minutes. 3pts in his last 18 playoff games when we needed him the most. We could not use all our cap space on Markov. Come one man!

I think by the end of October or November would be a good bet. We will first evaluate the new additions to our team and also see how other teams do and who is available. Things will change pretty quick.

So far with the clues and hints given by Bergevin and Julien, the lineup should look like;

Pacioretty - Drouin - Lehkonen
Galchenyuk - Danault - Gallagher
Shaw - Plekanec - Hemsky
Byron - Holland - Mitchell

Schlemko - Weber
Alzner - Petry
Streit - Benn

Price
Montoya

It's obviously way better to have 8.5M of dead cap space and having Schlemko with Weber instead.

Bergevin is criticized for stupid things around here but the way he handled the Markov negociations was stupid, and that's being generous. No reason why this guy couldn't finish his career here. None. No matter which weird way you want to twist it.

In-season trades are incredibly rare nowadays. And you aren't going to get real cap-dump trades in-season because once they're cap compliant for the season, teams don't need to dump bad contracts.

Is this really a take outside of a few people? I was saying it in July but it sees very unlikely at this point unless another teams get desperate.

All I know is I saw far to many posts from people saying it was obvious that Bergevin was going to spend the cap space when Radulov and especially Markov didn't re-sign.

Markov said he'd come back on a one year deal, such deal being rejected by Montreal. And its honestly insane to think Markov would demand an amount that would make Montreal not cap compliant.

Our GM looks at D-core of Weber, Petry, Alzner, Benn and Schlemko and says that he wants a puck-moving D core and that he doesn't want a defensive hockey team. Which is of course why he didn't want to keep poor puck movers like Subban, Beaulieu and Sergachev.

I'm not sure we can trust his judgement on this one.
