LAK drafted Greentree at 26th; based on the above consensus ranking, he's ranked 17th. Habs, at 21st, picked Hage who is ranked 20th in that list.

Personally, I prefer to have Greentree and keep our 2nd-round pick.

Greentree has bad feet. Hage is a better fit and has center potential. He's a more valuable prospect even if Greentree could hit higher.

Wether or not the end result was their plan all along, we'll probably never know. Not for many years at least.

The way they talked about how much higher they had Hage on their list and the fact it was leaked in the media beforehand, all signs point to them targeting Hage.

Gorton has made these types of deals before.

His scouting staff targeted Pettersson and Schneider. It didn't work out for Pettersson, but it did for Schneider.

Lol, this. Nobody can read between the lines around here, and they take everything Hughes says at face value. The man was a player agent. He’s not going to say anything before or after that reveals the way the team operates behind the scenes. The smart thing to say is the guys you picked were your targets all along, whether it’s actually true or not. What the actual truth is, we’ll never know. It doesn’t matter anymore anyway. Be excited about the guys we got.

Hage has the ghost of his father in a habs jersey cheering him on. You can't put a ceiling on that.
