Latvia played a very good shut down role and the Goalie played very well. Latvia deserves all the accolades they will receive for this win.

I really liked what I saw from Germany today as well. I think with the way Germany plays, they could be another tough test.

But, if we are going to lose one game, this is the one to lose. It has the least impact. We won’t be battling Latvia for the top of the Pool. If Canada wins in regulation against USA and Germany, they finish at the top of the Pool.

Cameron sucks, Bonk sucks on the PP used in wrong manner (more Cameron sucking), Cowan sucked tonight played individual hockey, no one can score and 50G man in the stands and Misa in Saginaw, can't connect 3 passes, no net drive, didn't want the puck, outhustled and outworked, old boys club at HC and TSN as their propaganda wing, may as well have brought Letang back...

How's that for a start at a rant?

Ivankovic was good.

Is it too late to call Sennecke, Cristal, Misa, Yakemchuck or Parekh back yet?

Bonk on PP1 is a head scratcher to me. Is he he even on PP1 in his own club?

I've said enough about Cowan to say anymore.

As other said Ivankovic looked pretty good as a 17 year old. This is George's team this year but it will be Ivankovic's next year.

Rehkopf needs to play imo.

Why Cowan and not Ritchie? Both missed in the shootout and at least Cowan kept getting the puck and had chances during the game.

Ritchie was just a passenger most of the game and only scored off of a Cowan pass.

No one else on that line was doing much retrieving and initiating plays or getting off many shots of their own. So I wouldn't single out Cowan just because his shots didn't go in.

The biggest omission for Canada was not having Dale Hunter as HC and settling for the mediocre Dave Cameron.

Sam Dickinson runs the power play for the best team in the CHL but he hasn’t been on the ice yet for one second of PP time in the first two games of this tournament.

It is kind of pathetic to point fingers when a still stacked Team Canada lost to Latvia as if a different combination of players would make a difference.

Canada’s power play has struggled badly so far in the tournament and Sam Dickinson has not been on the ice for one second of PP time. Despite the fact that it’s Dickinson, not Oliver Bonk, who runs the point in London.

That’s a mistake by a coach not putting his players in a position to succeed.

D’Amato could run the PP for team Canada and normally beat Latvia.

Let’s be real. Any single one of the Team Canada’s D-Men can run a successful Powerplay against Latvia in 19 out of 20 games. Sometimes shit happens.

All this garbage about who they didn’t take and who the coach is etc is complete garbage. There was more than enough talent on that ice tonight to beat Latvia with their eyes closed. The team came out overconfident, allowed Latvia to settle into a defensive shut down mode and the Canadian Players did not execute well enough to penetrate it.

The passing was outrageously poor. Stupid individual efforts. Blasting pucks from the point directly into Latvians less than 5 feet from the shooter.

They took stupid lazy penalties because they weren’t moving their feet and made stupid decisions with and without the puck. If they had have executed a pass (like the one to Ritchie) with any sort of consistency, they’d have run away with that game.

This armchair quarterbacking is ridiculous. EXECUTE like they are capable and they win. Execute like they did tonight and you lose. This is the reason why teams like Peterborough beat top teams in the OHL. Those top teams don’t execute while the Petes work their asses off trying their best to hang in and they end up successful sometimes.

Somehow thinking Senneke and Hunter would have made a difference is ridiculous. If the players don’t execute, it doesn’t matter who they take and who is coaching. Using that as an excuse is like saying that although Team Canada with all their 1st and 2nd round NHL picks clearly wasn’t enough and maybe if they had taken different 1st and 2nd round picks, they would have won. Preposterous.

Sometimes it is good to get this type of wake-up call. Like I said previously, losing to Latvia is meaningless. Beat Germany and USA and they win the Pool. If they can learn from this and take the game more seriously the rest of the way, it will be a good lesson learned.

Oh how I long for the day when losing a game in this tourney at any time actually meant something.

Back in the day, losing a game early in the tourney was devastating and almost always meant you needed “help” to get to gold.

Any tournament where you can theoretically go 1-3 after four round robin games and still have the same chance to win gold as a 4-0 team is as close to bogus as it gets. Tough to take that tourney seriously to be honest.

I understand the need for a “Gold Medal Game”. But they need to make the round robin actually mean something.

How about after the RR, only the top two teams on each side advance? Then go semi final then gold and bronze medal games. Leaves little to no room for error from Day One on.

Yeah, this.

Surely, after what sometimes seems like a million years of international hockey at all levels, Canadian fans understand that shit happens every now and again. For instance, the best senior men’s Team Canada I ever saw was the 1976 Canada Cup edition (Orr, Esposito, Hull, Potvin, Lafleur, etc., etc.). Yes, they won the tournament, but along the way they lost 1-0 to the Czechs in a game where goalie Vladimir Dzurilla stood on his head and his teammates busted their asses for 60 minutes against a stacked opponent. Essentially, Canada’s team of superstars got out worked. Guess it was all Scotty Bowman’s fault for not having the guys ready? Bad roster decisions? Or does anyone think that Canada simply didn’t execute (hint: they didn’t)?

It happens. Get over it and get on with it.

Lmao.. wtf game were you watching dude. RITCHIE was a passenger? Wow you are delusional.. the whole f***n team was way too cocky comming into this team and thats on their coaching. Their penalty killing is pathetic not just their powerplay so far... taking a too many men penalty with 3 minutes left is a coaching problem..

Dave Cameron benched Martone the entire 3rd period and then through him out there for the shootout.... What in the f***
Classic DC. In a game against London, where the 67s forced it to a shootout, one of his choices for the first three shooters was Korbler, pointless in 11 games. The comment that I heard was that, of the 8 Canadian shooters, only one was a serious effort. After 3 years with him here in Ottawa, I have no suggestions. I wish that it surprised me.

Lots of people on social media singling out Cowan yet he set up Ritchie's goal and had a lot of shots on net and everyone missed in the shootout not just him.

If were gonna complain about Cowan it's fair to say Ritchie and Nadeau didn't do much either and you'd want way more out of the entire first line for team Canada against a team like Latvia.

Bonk doesn't QB London's powerplay - why is he doing that here?

It's painfully obvious that Cowan is so desperately trying to play the the hero. So many bad shots and I'll advised moves.

Ritchie must think Latvia doesn't have TVs because every person in the world knew he was doing that move... You have to shoot it at least once...

Gibson with a moronic spinning elbow to give Latvia the PP to tie it up at 1 - with international rules on head contact I was honestly thinking it was a 5.

Not OHL but what the hell is McKenna doing jumping on the ice that early in OT - his guy was still on the other side of the ice.

Sure this game might not matter standings wise if they win on NYE but if you don't think the US are looking at this Canada team and looking at the recipe to beat this team you're nuts. Hell if Germany hunkers down and plays a team game like Latvia I don't know how you can be confident

Cowans an easy guy to target because he tries to do to much himself and turns over the puck constantly because of it.

I agree put him on the third line

they outplayed the hell out of Latvia had over 50 shots but this is unbelievable. This is a team they usually blow out- why did they have troubles with that this time?

Cameron stinks he’s gotta go

Does anyone have a count on how many first round picks were snubbed so Cameron could put his boy Pinelli (4th rounder) out there every other shift on a line with Gavin Mckenna?

When team Canada can't beat Latvia there's no one player to blame. They should have been getting goals from all over the lineup in a game like that.

Coming into this game Cowan had a bunch of goals in the pre tournament and scored against Finland.

One game where his shots aren't going in and now he's the big problem even though he set up one of the two goals they did manage to get and the entire team at 5 on 5 didn't score a goal against Latvia.

10, not including 3 in the NHL (Bedard/Celebrini/Benson) and 2 hurt (Iginla/Lindstrom).

Wood/Barlow from 2023
Sennecke, Parascak, Boisvert, Hage, Letourneau, Greentree, Vanacker, O'Reilly from 2024

So you look at that game and think Cowan played well? Just because other players sucked doesn't mean Cowan didn't. People are calling him out because he played a lot and not well.

It felt like he had the puck on his stick more than most other players and absolutely nothing came out of it.

In OT, McKenna got 45 seconds. Small wonder he was too quick to jump on the ice.

Pinelli, Akey, Martone, Howe, Gauthier, and Beaudoin never got on the ice to play. Gibson had 42 seconds. I know it is only 5 minutes, but this looks off. Martone was benched for the third as well.

Latvia is like a lot of these teams. They rise and fall on their goaltending.
