Canada played well today and got the big W. I thought the game was starting later and so I missed the first 10minutes, then my shaw reciever decides that this is the time that it needs to do an automated bootup and I miss both of Canada's goals while the Shaw system takes forever to reboot.

At least I saw replays of the first two goals and the third goal.

It’s been a long time since Canada could play without their best player and still win comfortably at this level of competition. Maybe ever. ;)

I see where you're going there. I was wrong on all counts. Hows that?

For sure this is the most entertaining Canadian side ever. All our Concacaf opponents be like WTF, this is Canada, whats with all this great movement and control around the box? These are remarkable stretch passes to the corner, really good at that, and speed getting to those. But the composure around the area is what really surprises me. Defensively they swept up good in this game as well.

This really is a good wave for Canada. I was late to the party but enjoying it. Albeit I've seen Davies around since he was here. What surprises me is how many good players we suddenly have out there.

I think this is a World Cup quality roster, doesn't mean that they'll make it but the talent level up front especially is quality. Watching them in the Gold Cup and now the World Cup qualifiers, this is a legit team. I've never followed Canadian soccer much because, well, they've never been relevant in my lifetime but they must be doing something right with the development program because this team can compete at a pretty high level.

Apology accepted :sarcasm:

I’m glad you’re able to enjoy the games…when your cable isn’t cutting out. ;)

They have a bunch of players who don’t get much exposure because they play in lower tier leagues. Laryea is a gem and probably the most underrated player on the roster.

I think they’re aiming to try and peak in 2026 on home soil though.

It was mentioned, as well, that El Salvador doesn't have the depth to play 3 games in 7 days. Although they had the bodies, their top end talent isn't that spread out so that bring on, or rest, players.

It's a young group with lots of potential.

Should probably root for a U.S. victory tonight and the U.S. badly needs it themselves after scoring 1 goal in 2 games that they were favorites in.

Top 3. 4th place plays a "playoff" against a team from the Asian qualifiers I believe.

Actually, the 4th place CONCACAF, 4th round playoff winner in from AFC (Asia), 5th place Round Robin team CONMEBOL (South America) and the OFC 2nd round winner (Oceania), are put in a pot and the 2 matchups are drawn. The final 2 WC spots are determined in a 2-leg series between the matchups. Away goals rule is in effect.

Canada win and Mexico draw so far. Might be a Costa Rica draw at home vs Jamaica (Jamaica's come close the past minute). A US/Honduras draw would have us tied for 2nd but ahead of Panama on goals for.

The CBS Sports analysts are in shock that the Americans are losing and they're looking bad at it.

Edit: the half time host mentioned that in WC qualifying, when down at the half, their record is 1-6-33. Yikes.

Yeah I was watching the American broadcast of the Canada-US game and the commentators were talking about how the US not getting 3 points at home against Canada was a big underachievement for the US, and they couldn't rest on their summer achievements, and how the US couldn't squander opportunities to pick up 3 points against lesser teams at home like they did in 2018 World Cup qualifying. It kind of seems like they don't realize that the teams playing in the Gold Cup weren't their countries' best/full squads.

Edit: And the US ties it in the 48th minute. I think a draw is the best case scenario here so I'm happy with the current score line.

Nah, there was actually a time when Canada was the powerhouse in Concacaf.

I think it’s going to come down to us beating out Panama, Costa Rica and Honduras.

It comes down to all the games and getting results. Good results are quickly erased by losing to teams you should beat. The thing about the US is they can play in tight games and like last night get a result, a win, in a tight game where they are not playing their best. Its the standard good teams find ways to win thing. Canada struggled immensely in the Honduras game and its an inconsistency they have to get out of their system.

Also, Concacaf is dirty. Don't always be on the receiving end of bad tackles. Fight back smartly. Not pushing some guy to the turf and gettng carded. But pull some of the same tactics. The officiating was abysmal yesterday, and typical. A lot of Canadians are going to go down injured if they don't take care of themselves and manage the way the game is being called and respond accordingly.

If you ain't cheating you're not trying hard enough. Finally, a lot of players are going down at slightest of tugs. You're not going to get the call in Concacaf that you are accustomed to in league play. I forget who it was, the Canadian had beat the defender at the box and was in homefree but fell down looking for the call. Play through, whenever possible just make the play. No reason to go down, nothing happens and its scoring chance lost.

As good as Canada has been so far they haven't had to play in hostile territory. The US is tame compared to what goes on and they've had that game and two home games. Really all the games have been comfortable surroundings. Gonna be important to be tough and mentally sharp in the Central American home games. Tougher places to play, always. Road wins will be harder.
