BOSTON (WHDH) - A boy with cancer got the chance to travel to Boston with his family and meet his favorite hockey player, thanks to the Boston Bruins.

Ronny Betterley, who is from Ontario, was diagnosed with a rare and inoperable brain tumor less than a month ago. The 6-year-old and his family put together a “bucket list†for him and on the list was meeting his favorite hockey player, Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask.

Back home in Canada, supporters raised enough money for Ronny to come to Boston. He and his family watched Saturday’s game against the Washington Capitals. After the game, the Bruins gave Ronny the opportunity to meet Rask and Bruins forward Brad Marchand. Due to undergoing a series of radiation treatments, Ronny was too exhausted to talk to the Bruins players but his brother and sister helped him.

“It’s a pretty cool experience meeting Tuukka and Brad. Much rather would have met him under better circumstances than this. But he had a smile when he saw the two,†said Joe Betterley, Ronny’s brother. “He’s happy, I’m happy.€

Hockey players have always been and will continue to be the most connected of professional athletes to the average fan and, as this story shows, with the far more important moments for some in life than any game. Huge props to the Bruins and Tuukka and Brad for making this moment possible for Ronny and his family.:handclap:

It seems to me that whenever some sick kid goes to meet a favorite Bruins player it's never for Marchand. But Brad always meets the kid anyhow. So Marchy is either a giant photo-bomber or just a really sweet guy.

This brings tears to my eyes. Poor little boy and his family...no one should have to go through this. Good for the Bruins and the people who raised the money to get his wish to come true.

This is one of the reasons I love the Bruins, they "get" that they are in a position to do some good and generally do so. Many members of the team seem to jump at the chance to do good things for the community. Even when they play less than stellar (like the last two years) I can still stand by them because they are a part of Boston and its community, not just arrogant millionaires.

Not trying to dis the other local teams because they also seem to do a lot, that is why I love this area.

I think the onions that I cut up for beef stew several hours ago are burning my eyes. Tears are still pouring down my cheeks.

What a shame the little darling was too tired from the radiation that he wasn't able to chat with Tuukka and Brad. Very kind of the both of them to do this, along with the Bruins and the folks that helped raise money for them to be able to travel with his family.

Above all else, this is why I really love this game. All those involved really make a conscious effort to give back.
