That bastard golfed with my dad's boss over the summer and was supposed to get him free tickets to the Blackhawks game vs the Leafs this Sunday. He was going to give those tickets to my dad and I. Auston Mathews hasn't come through with those tickets. f***ing bum. :sarcasm:

Here are my little thoughts on the game and the state of the 2 countries.

US played a more playoff style game. They hit harder and scored greasy playoff goals.

Canada's top end talent can't be touched. MacKinnon, Makar and McDavid are on their own level.

There was only 1 pp in the game. Best pp I've ever seen. So much movement.

Binnington stole the W. He robbed Tkachuk and Matthews in ot.

McDavid was meh in this game but was money when he had to be.

Canada is 1A
America is 1B

Trump can suck my nutz.

Both can be true. Given all the talk leading up to today about how he has said numerous times he would never miss this game wouldnt be shocked if he told Sully and co he is good to play when he wasnt even feeling 50%.

Athletes lie or downplay their injuries a ton to play and avoid sitting. Not that long ago in the 23 playoffs Linus Ullmark was in Boston he lied about his injury status so he could play over Swayman the majority of that series.

Hughes was straight up bullied this game it was incredible watching him slide further and further down the lineup this tourney.

There’s some guys I was super impressed with and others I’d never want to see again.

Sam Bennett got a lot of shit but he looked great. Thomas Harley too stepped up, hate that Dallas has him. Doughty for being old and just getting back from injury showed his veteran savvy. The Americans bottom line was beyond useless. Larkin and Guentzel were great. Devon Toews looked like a mess out there and Reinhart was extremely quiet.

Agreed on Bennett. He was very impressive, particularly today. I wouldn’t be opposed to the Hawks getting him.

USA should be fine, get a recurring 2-year Olympics and whatever this thing is off-cycle and they'll win their share. Canada will of course as well and you'd expect more often. Would be great for USA if they could get an ATG or two Forward. Obviously Canada like everyone else will need someone or two to come through once McDavid/MacKinnon get old, which would be cool if it's Bedard but we'll see.
 
Always was a fan of Bennett back to Calgary when he was misused and cast as a winger at one point. How incompetent by their management. Guys such a stud. Absolute gamer.

Just one of those players you win with. I know we are years away but if you have the chance to add him you do it.

Came away super impressed with Eichel and Slavin for the US this tournament. Brady Tkachuk too. Matt is an animal when healthy but should have sat for Connor here.

I would do absolutely terrible things to get Brady Tkachuk as a Hawk long term.

Binnington was phenomenal in OT. Mcdavid wasn’t good tonight but much like Crosby in 2010 will be remembered for that moment.

Canadas top end of Mack, Makar and Mcdavid are untouchable. Three of the best ever at the top of their games.

Yeah Canada doesn’t have Duncan Keith - Shea Weber pairing to throw out there. Which is about the most ridiculous pairing you can possibly imagine

Prime Doughty and prime ME Vlasic was disgusting too. Felt like we really missed Morrissey here. His game actually reminds me a lot of a young ME Vlasic but he’s better offensively.

Was holding my breathe with those second and third pairs tonight. Sanheim, Harley and Parayko are good players but not the level of the last few defenders on Canadian best on best tournaments

I've never been a fan of refs "swallowing the whistle" just because it's an important game. If a penalty is a penalty, call the f***ing penalty. I can see the incidental kind of trips and such being let go, even though one in the OT was a blatant penalty that probably should have been called. But 7 guys on the f***ing ice as the puck goes through them all? Yeah, you have to call that shit. By not trying to impact a game result with penalties, the refs ultimately impact the game result by NOT calling penalties. So they're still impacting the game result. It's so stupid.

That uncalled TMM penalty would have been right when the US had ALL the momentum in OT too. I'd be furious if I was on that team.

Agreed 100% which is why it's a little frustrating that the one penalty they did call was against the US. Obviously, they killed it, so I don't want to hear "well it didn't even matter!!!" because it does matter, it still changes momentum, and it's still 2 minutes of the game you're backed against a wall.

There were what... 3 or 4 too many men situations Canada got away with, and the one you mentioned was just awful to go uncalled. Like you mentioned, it wasn't even just 6 guys it was 7 on the ice and the puck was right there at their feet lol.

Morrisey and Theodore were two big losses.

Sanheim and Harley played well though gotta give credit where it's due.

I can't stand the big nosed bastard either but he came through in the clutch with some game-saving stops when it mattered most.
