To recap how Canada has done against Finland in a best on best

1998 - Finland 3 Canada 2 bronze medal game
2002- Finland 1 Canada 2 Quarterfinals
2006 - Finland 2 Canada 0 Round Robin
2014 - Finland 1 Canada 2 OT Round Robin

Canada has not beat Finland by more then a goal in a best on best scenario men’s hockey the last 37 years…that should tell you how todays game will go down. Also note, Canada has never scored more than 2 goals….Our goalie can not, I repeat, CAN NOT give up a soft goal, or it’s OVER.
Not sure the relevance that any of these games has on a game in 2025. McDavid was a year old in 1998, and in his second year of junior in 2014.

I was outlying how it’s always a 1 goal low scoring game no matter the era. If they went over your head, which it appears it has, that’s on you.
Again, what happened nearly 30 years, or 15 years ago has no relevance on this outcome in terms how these two teams stack up.

If anything it likely highlights the fact that in short tournaments with new linemates, coaches, playstyles, etc, theres likely much longer feeling out process happening, and fear of playing too aggressively leading to turnovers/goals.

Id also argue that there's a bit more game/penalty management going on from the refs when it comes to international tournaments

No pressure, Canada. By your own words, Finland has an AHL defense and it was sad when USA only managed 1 goal in the 1st period. Don't even bother responding. I can't hear you over all the purple mountain majesty we got going on over here and all the Tkachuk goals

Even the finnish winter war will have a huge impact on this game ! ;)

But seriously I do believe that many of the finnish players are used to cause upsets and that the young players of this country has had a lot of international success CAN have an impact.

I think either a blowout where Canada takes and holds the lead from the second half of the game onwards ... or if it goes to the third period and no decisive lead for Canada then the psychological factor may win it for Finland.

Are they really going to play Binnington?

The issue now is that Hill hasn't played in 10 days, so does Cooper risk sending him in relatively cold?

If I was coaching I'd make the switch and take my chances. If Hill gets off to a bad start then Binnington, who played just 2 days ago and is clearly in game shape, can jump in and pray Canada recovers.

What's going to haunt Cooper is if Binnington starts today, lets in a few bad ones and Canada doesn't recover even if he's pulled. Or, if Binnington's not very good today but Canada still wins and then he really has to go back to him for the final (see above about "cold" Hill)

lolllllll

Binnington let in two goals. I am not a fan, but blaming him for the loss against USA is ridiculous. Adin Hill is a mediocrity. Expecting to get a good result whilst scoring one goal is delusional. Crosby made a really bad turnover leading to the winning goal, Mackinnon has been invisible... they were supposed to be big positives for Canada, yet they weren't. Time for those guys to come out on fire.

The NHL style of play of allowing obstruction/interference to be allowed has ruined this tournament. The hockey has been awful. The skill has been completely removed. Whichever team can take advantage of that will win and good on them I guess but the entertainment value of these games has been disappointing.
You're on an island with this opinion and I'm checking to see if you were on the
S. S. Minnow...lol.

Canada will fill the net against this Finland d corp. 6-2.

Why would he have any sort of loyalty to Binnington? He's not a Lightning player lol

Armstrong is the gm of the 2026 Olympic team and might have cooper's ear?

Regardless, this sure isn't 2014 when you could call on price or luongo.... or any other point in Canadian hockey history.

If Sweden wins in regulation they get 3 points. Then they have 5. If Canada and Finland go to overtime, the winning team will land on 4 points = Sweden in final. If either Finland or Canada win in regulation = Sweden is out.
Ok, so the standing is
USA 6p
Canada 2p
Finland 2p
Sweden 2p

My take
Well, Finland has finally a bonafide 1C, Barkov, the first true 1C they EVER had.
(Mika Nieminen was great, but not that much 2 way as Barkov. Keskinen and Koivu had skill and heart, but to smallish.)
But with Barkov on the lead, they have a chance against Canada
USA , Sweden? USA is even mire fastpace than Canada, I would rank USA ahead of Canada. Centerdepth in US is even stronger than Canada, if it was possile.
