To recap how Canada has done against Finland in a best on best

1998 - Finland 3 Canada 2 bronze medal game
2002- Finland 1 Canada 2 Quarterfinals
2006 - Finland 2 Canada 0 Round Robin
2014 - Finland 1 Canada 2 OT Round Robin

Canada has not beat Finland by more then a goal in a best on best scenario men’s hockey the last 37 years…that should tell you how todays game will go down. Also note, Canada has never scored more than 2 goals….Our goalie can not, I repeat, CAN NOT give up a soft goal, or it’s OVER.

Laine with 2 goals, Granlund with the OT winner, Finland 3 Canada 2.
What happens if Sweden and Finland wins in regulation? Its USA that wins this tourney right? They have beaten the top dogs, and Finland with a better score?

Edit :
It will end like
USA 6p , 2 reg win, 1 loss
Finland 6p, 1 reg win,, 1 OT win, 1 loss.
Sweden 5p 1 reg win , two tied (OT losses)
Canada 3p, 1 OT win. Thats that.

Right?

There is a final game that decides this tournament. US will face one of Sweden, Canada or Finland. If Finland wins in regulation, they are in the final.

Going from Brodeur, Lungo and Price to Binnington in the last 15 years looks like a severe downgrade goalie wise for Canada.

Really excited for this game and glad that it's on at a reasonable time for us Europeans ;-). Canada will probably win in regulation given their firepower and desperation, but I think there's still hope Finland can play spoiler. Hyva Suomi!!

Finland’s defensemen are straight up not good, get the forecheck going early and they will wilt/struggle to move the puck out of their own end.

Canada takes this 5-1.

I think it would be interesting to swap around the forward to try something new. For example, McDavid/MacKinnon as a duo to use their speed together. I'd like to see Point move to 2C in MacK's move to wing. I think he and Crosby might do well together.

Reinhart-McDavid-MacKinnon
Crosby-Point-Marner
Marchand-Bennett-Stone
Hagel-Cirelli-Jarvis

Cooper deserves a massive amount of criticism if he starts Binnington.

Binnington has been shaky and let in soft goals in both games.

He now lost a game in regulation.

Historically, if you lose a game for Team Canada, the other guy gets a shot.

Hill is better than Binnington and should've been given the first shot. He 100% needs to start against Finland.

I say this regardless, even if Canada wins... starting Binnington would be extremely poor judgement from Cooper.

Only one thing is sure for this match; Finns won't be able to stay out of the box no matter how hard they try :teach2:
Not implying anything, they are a reckless crew :teach2:

Hoping for OT so the evening match means something

You missed the 2004 World Cup of Hockey Final, Canada 3 Finland 2, But it only helps your argument. :-)

Anything but a Canadian regulation win would be a big surprise
Yes as a staunch Canadian fan you are correct however if Finns keep it real close say half game then a little bit of panic hurry up takes affect which changes all bets.
Finland knows how to defend. The Americans showed them defence wins.
Close game alert.

I did not realize until now that the game is on so early. Anyway should be a good one. For Canada, win and you're in the final, lose and you don't deserve to be there anyway.

Both of their last 2 games Canada came out at an enourmous pace - full speed (McDavid etc),

Then they get tired in the end and that is the time when Finland should use their secret weapon called sisu to crush the red and white 52nd state. :)

I have a feeling that Canada will be in all-in mode straight from the opening puck drop and if we ain't ready, the game could be over in the first period. But if we are able to hold on to our dear lives for one and a half period and not take any stupid penalties, we might just end up netting the first goal and then it just could be downhill for Canada after that. It has happened before, clear and obvious favorite go down a goal or two and end up getting a bit too angry and it costs them.

So it's either a blowout like 5-1 to Canada or a more tighter game, 2-3 to Finland.

MVP of the game for Finland: Barkov. Honorary mention to Aho, if they end up splitting Aho and Hintz and he finally gets going.
