Canada use soviet style better than soviets?

Most of the world knows nothing about us. The little they do know, it's hockey, poutine, and maple syrup.

We're more like your little brother. But, we own you at hockey. Even our leaders exchange trash talk over hockey when they get together .

And milk in bags......

As the best team on paper in the tournament I don't really think it's fair to say Canada does Soviet-styled hockey better than the Soviets, rather I think one should say that modern hockey has been completely and utterly changed by the influences of Soviet hockey -and Team Canada is a reflection of said fact.

With the exception of the US and I would argue Team Europe, every single team in this tournament aims to be more Soviet-styled than traditional dump-the-puck Canadian.

worth to mention, Soviets learned hockey from Czechoslovakia :) not that known fact, but have heard that also from a Russian commentator watching KHL.
So generally in Europe the hockey was not South - North style as it used to be in NA. Most likely because Bandy hockey, on large ice surface would naturally be passing game. This was more popular in beginning of 20th century. And yes, it is funny that Crosby plays European style and Ovechkin Canadian.

As far as heart goes, :) , it is very often question of sportsmanship as thought in Europe that stops European players from deliberately braking ankles of best players on opposing teams. In Canada they call it heart :) They put this little twist in 72 series, that breaking someones legs just shows how they care about the sport.

Well, you pick whats right. Just imagine if Soviet player did this to a canadian, would it still show heart or would it just show that those dirty Russians always play like that :)

Could not help myself not to mention this BS series twist.

Canada at the last two Worlds have shown two different ways of playing the best modern hockey. Last year they had one of their highest skill teams ever and that allowed them to play fast, controlled attacks while dominating puck possession. They had the high end skill to make and receive hard passes, both long and short. THis year tehy didn't quite have the skill but they adapted to their opponents. They completely eliminated our game plan in the final with long cycles in the offensive zone, thus eliminating our offense because the lines were mostly spent from the cycling at the defensive zone.

Quick passing game, unexpected decisions (very-well calculated/trained though), and much better skating are what allowed Soviets from the past beat team Canada. When a team can execute plays at a high speed any team Canada, including the current one, is immediately off their game. The problem is that it is almost impossible to do...

Out of all teams at the WCH Russians are the closest to that style (I would also recall Swedes of the past with Sundin, Forsberg, Lidstrom, etc.), but, unfortunately our D sucks big time...

So the receipt is there, there is no personnel. You can also out-grind Canada but you need a very specific roster and a lot of puck luck. I would bet the result will be similar to Sochi when Canada allowed 3 or 4 goals in the whole tournament.
Canada skates and handle the puck much better now then before. I don't think speed is Canada's weakness, in the contrary.

Soviet-style of hockey is a beautiful but it's just called hockey now a days, if have the skill you cycle the puck and keep the possession. For me, Canadian style was more dump and chase and playing dirty, I did find that type of hockey fun to watch. These styles are more blended now and depending on the skills of the team and the opponent.

Also, I call BS on that heart and soul thing, for sure the canadian society eat, breath and ***** hockey like no other society, this I know from living there for a year. However, players, no matter where they are from, are professional and do what they can to win. For some it means playing on the edge, others taking a lot of shots, for some it means not taking dumb penalties, etc etc.

Oh?

Still laughing?

Um, what?

After reading NA-Finland I see what you are trying to say. However I think your posts in that thread proves why you are wrong.

Jane Doe:
"Does anyonr really think european teams are taking this tournament seriously? The game was just as expected. Finland looked like they did not care, because they did not.

You:
"Or Team NA was better?"
Occam's Razor, generally the more simple explanation applies."

Then you go on rant saying that SISU cant beat heart and soul, good old canadian boys, we want war, etc, in several of the following posts when your first post actually explains it. NA was the better team in the game against Finland. But if you wanna go down that road I think SISU is more generally accepted as a thing than "heart and soul". From the hakkapelliitas used in Gustavus Adolphus the Greats army to the winter war Finns has displayed courage and fighting spirit which very much has formed Finlands current identity and the political landscape in which the country was formed. I still don't think SISU is real when it comes to pro sports, all players are trained and drilled to do their best.

Please go ahead and give me a run down on "heart and soul" only thing I can find on wiki is the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_and_Soul_(1938_song) but that song was written by an american and if you wanna read up on SISU I'll refer you this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisu.

McDavid really seems like a love-child of the Soviet style of game mixed with Canadian style hockey.

Brother, first thing you need to realize is Canadians love hockey more than anything else.

Sometimes we go over the top, Canadians are born into hockey being "who we are". I admit, this passion is unlike we see in Europe. Hockey means everything to us, you honestly need to look at us as the nicest people, but at the same time the guys you just laugh at because they love hockey so much.

It's actually worthy of being a comedy skit how much we love hockey.

Yes this I know. One my first jobs in Canada was being a dishwasher at a restaurant. The best thing about that work was that I had a tv in the kitchen so we could watch the NHL. At another job my boss had to seperate me and colluege cause he got heated when I claimed Sundin was the best hockey player ever  Even the fat, drugged out, no good, woman I was living with watched every Canucks game. I don't doubt that the Canadian society eat, breaths and ***** hockey like no other country, I just doubt that the spirit has an effect on pro level.

Also, in general Canadians are great people and the part of Canada I got the see(BC) had the most beautiful nature I ever seen. I would move there right away if I could. The thing I've learned was just don't make absurd claims that Sundin is the best hockey player ever

You understand us . Shame for cheering for the Canucks, become an Oilers fan.

Honestly, Europeans should just laugh at us more. We are super polite, and will always be friendly to our European brethren. Make fun of our love of hockey, if you love something as much as we do hockey, then you've lived a good life. We know our European and especially understand our British/French roots, we'll always be allies of Europe at the end of the day.

When it comes to hockey, we go completely crazy. We just love the game, we grow up with hockey from when we are children. Canada is boring, and our winters are cold and dark. Hockey bonds us and brings us together.

We literally treat hockey like war, it's objectively silly. However, the entire world ignores us. All we have is hockey.
