Canada Soccer Part VIII: World Cup Hosts Edition

Two days away.. Starting to think about the Swiss. If they stay 4-3-1-2.... the midfield is where this battle may be won.. If we can hold our own there and allow our wingers to go 1 on 1 with their fullbacks.. that is where we have the edge.

If we play 4-4-2 it feels like we need to push a full back or center back into midfield to even up the numbers. Freuler, Xhaka and Aebischer are solid and disciplined players. Saliba and Staq or Choiniere will need help.

Objectively speaking, Switzerland is an all around better team and can be one of the better European clubs if they dial in. They have only lost 1 match in their past 16 matches.

It will be a very tough match for Canada. They have to be 100% ready to go.

One of the youngest CPL players in history (debuted at 15 in 2024). Just picked up by Nottingham's academy.

Dual citizen with Ireland.

I'll make the assumption that Jesse will be over to see him after the World Cup.

I’ll never make the assumption based on recent fiascos and painful about-faces, but he’s been a key player for Ireland at multiple youth levels and even captained them at times. I think he’ll stay with Ireland and be capped for a senior match soon.

How are we feeling?

I'll be going to the game. Despite being at home, I do feel like we are underdogs in this one. Hoping the forwards are ready to score.
Yeah I'm also heading to the game today. I'm excited but slightly nervous.

Can we get a result today? For sure. I worry about how we defend against a team that has more offensive talent than anyone we have played so far. Midfield battle will be especially important.

Switzerland only really got going when they brought Manzambi on, so I do wonder if he starts.

Need to be even or better in midfield and hope Tajon can tear Rodriguez apart.

I don't see any reason why we can't win, Swiss ranking be damned.
