I really couldn't care less if anyone associated with the Russian team is punished. Unfortunate that they left, but nothing drastic. If nearly half of my Olympic team just got destroyed by a team without an Olympic level goaltender or defenceman and maybe four forwards, I would be pretty upset too.

They should suck it up and take it, just like everybody else has to when they over-jubiliate and sometimes taunt after wins.

Hockey Canada should just be more determined to repeat next year in Moscow.

Russian hockey federation has announced that head coach Oleg Znaroks and GM Andrei Safronov will be punished (to be announced later). National team's coordinator Arkadi Rotenberg stated to Tass that this was the first and last time this sort of thing happened.

Could it be that the Russians left the ice because they assumed that the golden ticker-tape meant that the ceremony was ending?

I seem to recall that the confetti usually falls after the anthem is played and signifies when the losing team can leave.

If that's what threw them for a loop, then it brings into question their cognitive skills. Who cares! just beat them next year in Moscow.
