4. Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall are just really good wingers. I know playing with Crosby helped them, but both really allowed Sid to be Sid as well. The offence Crosby was lacking at the Olympics... well he didnt lack any offence here, and a major part of that was because Hall and Eberle played off Sid well. Eberle especially showed he could keep up with Sid. It also made me realize something -- chemistry with Sid isnt about keeping up with his speed, but its knowing how to get open, and also to know where Sid is going. Considering how much time was spent in both 2010 and 2014 finding wingers for Sid, I would really consider giving Eberle a shot... seriously.

I take this as compliment to Hall and Eberle. But somthing has to be made clear. Hall and Eberle were not promoted to Crosby's line. Crosby was promoted to there line. They were stirring the drink then Mclelland put Crosby with them.

While I don't blame players for not going after a long NHL season, I really hope this win spurs more Canadians to go to the worlds from now on. Kudos to Crosby for leading by example.

Congrats to Team Canada on winning, the team looked as good as I've ever seen a Canadian team play in my 25 years watching hockey.

The format for the World Cup has thrown a bucket of cold water on any excitement.

Bogus International event.

I agree with you that some of the formats are weird (like an under 23 Team WTF!!!), but when it comes down to the crunch, the championship round will still be exciting!

It's not just Canadians that don't go. It's Americans too. Why would they want to travel so long for a tourny so soon after the season? A tournament that's been held a grand total of once in North America. If this tournament was held in North America more often it would be more popular with Canadians and Americans where games aren't on right when we're all going to work/school.

But then the games have to compete with NHL playoff games.

A very dominating performance.

I will say that some of the usual competition certainly battled hard but wasn't really in the same stratosphere of talent.

A combination of a strong Canadian team with a weaker Swedish team and maybe Finnish team really narrowed the field.

The US succeeded in spite of the lack of top-end talent (or because?) but I'm not under any illusions that they were a Gold medal favourite.

On paper, I assumed that Russia and Canada would be the top two teams at the beginning of the tourney so it's not really a surprising result.

Jagr and the Czechs were a great story for the home crowd even if they ended up just outside of the medals.

Very happy for the hockey in Canada once again and the players. Good stuff.

Best 2 years of Canadian hockey supremacy ever started in Sochi 2014!
2002 SLC, followed by the IIHF world cups in 2003 and 2004, the world cup in 2004, finals appearance vs Czech in 2005, IIHF world cup in 2007
was also pretty dominant in my opinion

Thoughts from the players:

Matt Duchene said:
“I’ve lost in that tournament three times, and twice was to Russia. We stood out and listened to their anthem,” Duchene said.

“We would never have dreamed of skating off the ice.”

It’s been made clear that some Russian players did stay out during Canada’s anthem, including Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin. Duchene said that their gesture didn’t go unnoticed, and “that spoke to a lot of us” on Canada’s team

Didn't see this video but here's the full ceremony of the Gold Medal game and when the Russian players depart.

Punishment by IIHF should be handed this week if I'm not mistaken.

Wonder if it's going to be heavy fines, or suspensions to the coaches. You are responsible for your players so that should warrant at least a penalty of that magnitude if not greater for such an insult to all involved.

Hit him where it hurts, suspend a certain ''number'' of players, such as the ''captain'' for at least one game in the upcoming tournament if not more.

IIHF has to get it right, the punishment has to be severe. Message has to relayed, this isn't the Olympics where you walk off after you lose, they're used to losing there but common. Common sense isn't so common after all I suppose.

Russian hockey federation has announced that head coach Oleg Znaroks and GM Andrei Safronov will be punished (to be announced later). National team's coordinator Arkadi Rotenberg stated to Tass that this was the first and last time this sort of thing happened.

Good for them. The staff either had no control of its players or were complicit in the walkout. Neither is good but the fact the coaches were also gone for the trophy presentation and anthem tells me they were complicit.

I really couldn't care less if anyone associated with the Russian team is punished. Unfortunate that they left, but nothing drastic. If nearly half of my Olympic team just got destroyed by a team without an Olympic level goaltender or defenceman and maybe four forwards, I would be pretty upset too.
