Tom Wilson and Zach Hyman over them all would have been better. No forecheck and lacking grit. Soft perimeter player like Marner heavily favoured over hard hitting Bennett and Konecny![]()

A LOT of people wanted Tom Wilson but, as has been said before, Hyman was ICE cold when they picked this team. Of course, as soon as the team was picked, he started scoring.Tom Wilson and Zach Hyman over them all would have been better.
Hyman can skate and has sandpaper with his scoring ability.Anyhow, it's all moot now, they have what they have. They still have loads of talent regardless so I guess I should not complain lolA LOT of people wanted Tom Wilson but, as has been said before, Hyman was ICE cold when they picked this team. Yeah the PP is definitely missing a shooter, to much cycling without any meaningful shots.Bedard would have done anything to be on this team just for experience alone. He would be dynamite on McDavids or Crosby's wing. This team badly misses Stamkos shot, even as a PP merchant.
I don't know how you could watch last night and still think this is a meaningless tournament"He's not ready"
So let's have him gain experience in a meaningless tournament so he knows how to prepare for the Olympics.
That's the whole point.
Yesterday game was as even as even can be. If Binnington makes a save on the first goal, it could have easily gone either way. Also, the U.S. was psyched last night. They were pumped off the chart.Hyman can skate and has sandpaper with his scoring ability.Anyhow, it's all moot now, they have what they have. They still have loads of talent regardless so I guess I should not complain lol
Larkin had open net & hit post Matthews missed wide open net too,so I try not to play what if but yea it was a very tight game.Canada Finns should be fun game with lots at stakeYesterday game was as even as even can be. We need to win Monday and develop some chemistry. This team certainly has the skill to win a single game on Thursday.
If not, take the loss, congratulate the winner, learn from it and move on.
Sid had a bad game but he is not the problemTeam has loyalty to the past and we're in a transition phase. Unfortunately this weakens lineup somewhat. Crosby is a 3rd line C on this roster, not #1 line. Marchand shouldn't even be there.
that didn't stop them from picking an "Ice cold" BinningtonA LOT of people wanted Tom Wilson but, as has been said before, Hyman was ICE cold when they picked this team. Of course, as soon as the team was picked, he started scoring.
"What if" was not my point. We lost because the U.S. was the better team.Larkin had open net & hit post Matthews missed wide open net too,so I try not to play what if but yea it was a very tight game.
True and no one I know wanted him as anything but the 3rd goalie.that didn't stop them from picking an "Ice cold" Binnington
Yes they are capable of exploding at anytime with the top talent they have."What if" was not my point. We lost because the U.S. was the better team.
My point : We are most than capable of winning on Thursday.
Yeah it's a mix of respecting old vets + bias for players on your own teamTeam has loyalty to the past and we're in a transition phase. Unfortunately this weakens lineup somewhat. Crosby is a 3rd line C on this roster, not #1 line. Marchand shouldn't even be there.
Sid had a bad game but he is not the problem
Agree, Marchand is too old and there were younger / bigger options.
Yep... couldn't use a 6'3 210lb center on pace for 50 goals and did this (video below) in a playoff game with no fans in attendance. Instead 5'10 180lb slow Marner whose pulling the chute in playoffs and skates away from scrums.I think it is obvious...
* We should have brought more size.
* We need our current players to step up - Sam Reinhart, where are you?
* We need to bury the hatchet when it comes to Logan Thompson.
If these mistakes helps us improve our team for 2026, Saturday's loss was a small price to pay.
As for 2025...
* As long as we win on Monday, last night does not matter
* If we can't beat Finland in regulation, we don't deserve another shot at the U.S..
Nothing has gone right for Canada in 2026 but if we win on Thursday, it's a huge step in the right direction.
But we knew that would be an issue because the 2016 - 2019 drafts were garbage for Canada. I've been warning about this for years. It's not that Sid doesn't belong, it's that there are along with Sid too many guys that well beyond their prime.
1 or 2 ok, Canada has like 4.
You took the words out of my mouth. I had the same thoughts last night. I am dumbfounded why Scheifele was passed up (4th highest Canadian Scorer), and why Tampa has 3 players getting the ice time they are right now. I could make a case that guys like Dylan Strome, Stamkos, Bedard, Tavares, Hyman, Tom Wilson or even Duchene could have been picked over some of the guys that made it.As usual the GM's and coaches attached to the teams prioritized their own players because of what happened with St. Louis requesting a trade when he wasn't initially selected by his GM. The team should be picked through a panel to avoid coaches/GM's worried about pissing off their players if they're not selected.
Absolutely no reason Tampa has 3 players that need to make Canada other than their coach is coaching the team. Absolutely no reason Binnington should be starting other than his GM is the GM of the team. There's a strong argument that Binnington shouldn't even be on the team. He's not even having a strong season - it made no sense - he's under .900 this year.
Schiefele should be on the team. I'd argue even Tavares is a better fit for the team as he'd basically be doing what they have Crosby doing. Let him go to the front of the net and tip pucks, he's good at faceoffs as well.
