A LOT of people wanted Tom Wilson but, as has been said before, Hyman was ICE cold when they picked this team. Of course, as soon as the team was picked, he started scoring.
Hyman can skate and has sandpaper with his scoring ability.Anyhow, it's all moot now, they have what they have. They still have loads of talent regardless so I guess I should not complain lol

Bedard would have done anything to be on this team just for experience alone. He would be dynamite on McDavids or Crosby's wing. This team badly misses Stamkos shot, even as a PP merchant.
Yeah the PP is definitely missing a shooter, to much cycling without any meaningful shots.

"He's not ready"

So let's have him gain experience in a meaningless tournament so he knows how to prepare for the Olympics.

That's the whole point.
I don't know how you could watch last night and still think this is a meaningless tournament

The amount of 'the US is the best - don't disrespect us next time!' on Twitter from politicians and random people that 100% never pay any attention to hockey whatsoever is hilarious.

Yesterday game was as even as even can be. If Binnington makes a save on the first goal, it could have easily gone either way. Also, the U.S. was psyched last night. They were pumped off the chart.

We need to win Monday and develop some chemistry. This team certainly has the skill to win a single game on Thursday.

If not, take the loss, congratulate the winner, learn from it and move on.

Team has loyalty to the past and we're in a transition phase. Unfortunately this weakens lineup somewhat. Crosby is a 3rd line C on this roster, not #1 line. Marchand shouldn't even be there.
Sid had a bad game but he is not the problem

Agree, Marchand is too old and there were younger / bigger options.

Besides Marner and Reinhart, Marchand has been a disappointment. Hasn't played with the tenacity and pest factor I would have expected. A couple times he actually shied away from that stuff when others on the ice were engaged.

I think he'll step it up being back in Boston, so I don't see him being considered to come out of the lineup. Jarvis has been OK but is just kind of "there", maybe get Konecny back in.

Yeah it's a mix of respecting old vets + bias for players on your own team

Marchand, Cirelli, Jarvis, Parayko all shouldn't be on the team imo

Schiefele, Suzuki, Konecny, Harley should all be lineup regulars over them

Nonetheless, Canada still has an amazing roster and games with the US will always be close affairs. Beat Finland tomorrow and it'll be another 50/50 game on Thursday

I think it is obvious...

* We should have brought more size.
* We need our current players to step up - Sam Reinhart, where are you?
* We need to bury the hatchet when it comes to Logan Thompson.

If these mistakes helps us improve our team for 2026, Saturday's loss was a small price to pay.

As for 2025...

* As long as we win on Monday, last night does not matter
* If we can't beat Finland in regulation, we don't deserve another shot at the U.S..

Nothing has gone right for Canada in 2026 but if we win on Thursday, it's a huge step in the right direction.
Yep... couldn't use a 6'3 210lb center on pace for 50 goals and did this (video below) in a playoff game with no fans in attendance. Instead 5'10 180lb slow Marner whose pulling the chute in playoffs and skates away from scrums.

Vs Marner in the playoffs:

It's not that Sid doesn't belong, it's that there are along with Sid too many guys that well beyond their prime.

1 or 2 ok, Canada has like 4.
But we knew that would be an issue because the 2016 - 2019 drafts were garbage for Canada. I've been warning about this for years.

While Team U.S. is getting their best players from those drafts, IN THEIR PRIME, we have very little to choose from.

On the plus side, since 2000, Canada's drafts have been off the charts great - unfortunately, those players are NOT ready yet.

Leaving Thompson off the roster—at the very least as an option—is just plain stupid.

Not bringing Hyman, a proven fit alongside McDavid, is another mistake.

The Tom Wilson non-selection is debatable. He's obviously a better fit against the Americans than Konecny/Jarvis.

Ultimately, it feels like they built a team for an IIHF-style Olympic tournament rather than one suited for an NHL-sanctioned event.

At the end of the day you can't ever expect to win at any level if you depend on secondary guys.

Canada scored 1 goal, that's not enough.

Their D was fine.

Ultimately it came down to goaltending, Helle was better and Binnington let in a goal he shouldn't have. Blame goes 50/50 for me towards Binnington and the top players.

Doesn't matter who/what/when/where/why, if your goalie/top guys play their C game, you're losing.

As usual the GM's and coaches attached to the teams prioritized their own players because of what happened with St. Louis requesting a trade when he wasn't initially selected by his GM. The team should be picked through a panel to avoid coaches/GM's worried about pissing off their players if they're not selected.

Absolutely no reason Tampa has 3 players that need to make Canada other than their coach is coaching the team. Absolutely no reason Binnington should be starting other than his GM is the GM of the team. There's a strong argument that Binnington shouldn't even be on the team. He's not even having a strong season - it made no sense - he's under .900 this year.

Schiefele should be on the team. I'd argue even Tavares is a better fit for the team as he'd basically be doing what they have Crosby doing. Let him go to the front of the net and tip pucks, he's good at faceoffs as well.
You took the words out of my mouth. I had the same thoughts last night. I am dumbfounded why Scheifele was passed up (4th highest Canadian Scorer), and why Tampa has 3 players getting the ice time they are right now. I could make a case that guys like Dylan Strome, Stamkos, Bedard, Tavares, Hyman, Tom Wilson or even Duchene could have been picked over some of the guys that made it.

You are not going to win many games scoring just one goal, and I totally do not blame Binnington for the loss- but those two goals (especially the first one) should not have been let in by an Elite Goalie.
Binnington is not an Elite Goalie. Logan Thompson not being named on this team is a joke. Hockey Canada dropped the ball on the WJC team, and I feel they dropped the ball with some of their selections for this tournament. Hopefully they learn their lesson for the 2026 Olympics.

Canada's roster is fine and more than good enough win, the only stand outs is the goalie selections, Binnington is nowhere close to Canada's best goalie right now. I would have went with Thompson, Hill, Kuemper. Honestly even MAF over Binnington.
