I love Merkleys skill set offensively but he's got that Ryan Murphy vibe to him , would love for him to prove me wrong because with his head on straight he could be a real asset.
He's played for Hockey Canada at each level prior to the WJC. Played in the CHL Russia series.
At Hlinka he played the pp but that’s about it. It will be interesting to see what they do about him.Wasnt invited in the summer though

Dobson plays the right side. Doubtful he plays his off side, and HC typically likes to split the D corps according to handedness (i.e. 3 left handers, 4 right handers, or vice-versa)
Would be very surprising to see Brook get cut in favour of Joseph/Phillips/Beaudin. Not with Hunter coaching, at least.
canada often have a couple of physical players in wjc, which players will be the physical ones this time?
This will be Dipietro last WJCCan you list one occasion that Hockey Canada has ever made a decision or played someone at this tournament based on a business decision or the team they happened to be drafted by?
I think Jett Woo makes it, he's physical, drafted by Vancouver, half Chinese which is a selling point to the large size Chinese community in Vancouver, there are just too many political reasons behind it, not that I agree with itNot really anyone, unless maybe Comtois gets sent down. Those players are disappearing.
I would go with something like this as of right now:
Lafreniere Glass Leason
Ratcliffe Hayton Suzuki
Formenton Frost Tippett
Dewar Dellandrea Mattheos
Veleno
Smith Bouchard
Joseph Dobson
McIsaac Mitchell
Brook
Whoever plays best at camp among DiPietro, Scott, and some third guy
Trying to find balance. I like Beaudin more than I do McIsaac, but I think that McIsaac brings more of what the team needs. I'm not a Tippett fan but the team has an abundance of passers and needs finishers.
Why is everyone putting Frost on the team? He plays poorly on both the CHL/Russia Series and Summer show case. Please review the videos if you have recorded, i wish i still have them. There were several give-ways that he did. He is also not very quick and great skater. There are a few players who are ahead of him in OHL scoring and they are not even invited.
Please note that the WJHC is a very fast pace game, like AHL playoff level. Against the top team like USA, Russia, Sweden, speed and pace are crucial. If a player causes giveaway, that can be a goal for those 3 top teams, meaning losing the gold medal. So, please review the video of how Frost plays, adjust your comment appropriately, unless you are vouching for the other top teams.
I would hope HC put out this forward roster. One weak link or mistake can mean losing the gold medal. So you please reconsider.

Anderson-Dolan or Vilardi or Enwistle.
Politics is a big thing behind the scenes with Hockey Canada.....to say politics is involved with who is actually on the ice come time for the tournament is just flat out wrong. It is going to be a lot of players last WJC and you have a goalie in Scott who is putting up absolutely absurd numbers in the WHL....Like not even video game numbers. There will be a competition for the number 1 spot. This will be Dipietro last WJC
OHL goalie of the year last season
WJC is in Vancouver, he was drafted by Vancouver
I dont see how they dont give him the job until he loses it, politics is a huge factor when it comes to international tournament

The closest to bias they ever come across is trying to balance and make sure each CHL league has sizable representation, but I haven't heard that complaint about Hockey Canada in awhile.I don't think that there is any evidence that Hockey Canada cares about a player's ethnicity when constructing a team. I also don't think that the team that drafted a prospect matters. Certainly when the tournament was partially held in Montreal Hockey Canada didn't make any reaches to get unworthy French-speaking players on the team.

Just switch Lafrenière and Formenton, and Bouchard and Dobson, and this is exactly what I’m thinking as well.Formenton- Glass- Suzuki
Bellerive- Hayton- Tippett
Lafreniere- Bowers- Leason
Foudy- Studnicka- Dellandrea
Frost
Bellerive I think makes the team due to his speed, offensive ability and play in his own end. Might not be a sexy pick but could have strong tournament. Leason has played too well to leave him off the roster. Foudy’s speed can be a big asset and he can shoot the puck. May not produce huge offensive numbers but I think there’s a role for him on this team. Studnicka is strong on draws, an excellent skater and plays a strong two-way game.. I like him to fit as a 4th liner who can play on the PK and chip in offensively. Dellandrea is a smart player, another strong skater and good defensively. His ability to play the wing also gives him a leg up on others, I like him. Bowers needs a good camp to make the team and while his offensive numbers aren’t great so far this year, I think that’s as much a product of his teams poor season. Another strong two-way player, I think he has the ability to make an impact.
Smith- Bouchard
Joseph- Dobson
McIsaac- Brook
Mitchell
I think that McIsaac/Beaudin will be battling for the final spot on the left side of the ice and then it’s either of them vs Mitchell for the 7th spot.
DiPietro
Scott
Rodrigue
Hockey Canada won’t name 3 goalies to the roster and I think Scott/DiPietro have secured the starting and backup roles. I’d take Rodrigue just because he’s younger but it won’t matter because this spot won’t get named anyways.
Just switch Lafrenière and Formenton, and Bouchard and Dobson, and this is exactly what I’m thinking as well.
I really hope JAD is ready. It’s not the end of the world if he isn’t but I’d be a lot more confident knowing we had a guy who could match up against absolutely anyone and produce with any quality of wingers.
Not sure about Formenton with the C. He isn't even C on London.I haven’t been impressed with Dobson’s play so far this season, I think Bouchard will slot in higher than him... I could see Joseph/Bouchard and Smith/Dobson pairings though. Also I wanted Lafreniere on the 1st line but I think initially they’ll give Formenton the chance. He’s likely the captain of the team, he’s going to be relied upon heavily, I assume he’s a top 6 forward.
