Canada will be favoured for gold at the World Juniors in Ottawa but their roster decisions are being debated ahead of selection camp: Canada’s Camp Roster Already Under Scrutiny Ahead of World Juniors

Do you like my lineup? What changes would you make? Should that roster be favoured for gold this year?
Nice write up. The only thing is you have McKenna listed as centring the first line, I’m assuming you want Catton there. In spite of the many questionable choices to invite to camp, I still think it’s the best team there

If they win, nobody cares
To be fair, I and a few other people on here (granted I pay much more attention to these things than the average hockey fan) have pointed out that they did a similar thing leaving off Bolduc and other talented players in lieu of Schaeffer, Dach and Bankier in 2023. They were bailed out by the fact Bedard went nuclear, but those three had a grand total of zero points against the Czech Republic, Sweden, and all the elimination games

Thought Dach got hurt really early

Good call, Catton might be better in the middle and on faceoffs. He's definitely the quickest of the three, so he could push the pace as their centre.

Would like to see Team Fisher take on the final Team. To many guys that are talented in Canada. Would have liked to see Misa at least get a look. 2.5 years of OHL hockey and a MC under his belt. The kid is a Swiss Army knife. He proved it last season.

You can’t pick a team based on star power but there’s some really notable players who weren’t even invited to camp and given a chance. Honestly, this is probably the worst year I can remember for leaving players off.

Misa, Yakemchuck, Sennecke and Parekh are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. There’s probably a few more too but it’s kind of insane to skip those guys. The Blackhawks should consider sending Bedard to boost his confidence as well

Anyone who has seen Parekh play isn't surprised by his omission, aside from Saginaw fans. He's a dirty player that would cost Team Canada in the long run.
I can’t say Parekh is dirty, but he would be exposed and exploited playing against high end talent.

The omission of Yakemchuk, is, of course, another matter.

Absolutely terrible. I was looking forward to boxing day. Terrible management/scouts.

A lot of us that Yakemchuk was bad at the U18’s when he played, and then was really bad at the summer showcase. Didn’t look good at all.

DuPont should’ve been selected.
No he shouldn’t have. He wasn’t even the best Canadian D at the U17’s a month ago. Going to be great but we don’t need a 15 year old on the team.

Maybe. But during this pre-season playing for the Senators, he showed that he could compete and excel against NHL competition. He was more impressive than several of the Canadiens defencemen, both young and established.

Misa will be there next year and potentially the following year, if he's not in the NHL, so his time will come. That's not to say he couldn't have contributed to this year's team or that he wasn't worthy of auditioning. He probably should have been on the camp roster but I like my lineup without him as of today.

I thought Verhoeff was better at the event, but I didn’t mean to imply DuPont wasn’t good. He was, but I still think the U20’s is too rich for him right now. Next year? For sure.
Agreed on both fronts. Verhoeff has been a beast in the Dub too. I wouldn't be shocked if both Verhoeff and DuPont are on next year's roster and then anchoring Canada's blue line the following year as go-to guys at the 2027 World Juniors!

I have a lot of respect for Al Murray and Peter Anholt as talent evaluators, so I trust their judgment to ice a gold medal-winning team. And Brent Seabrook certainly has a good eye for talent as well, rounding out the management team. Time will tell. I suggest you still tune in!

Obviously plenty has been said about how Parekh, Yakemchuk, Misa, Sennecke should have been invited (and they should have been), but I feel like Hage is getting overlooked. I get it's a "19 year olds' tournament", but what he's doing in the NCAA is against majority 20+ year olds.

Hage doesn't have much history with Hockey Canada but I assume he'll be in the mix next year like Bradly Nadeau this year.
