He won’t be playing against OHL 16 and 17 year olds. Against superior competition his defensive game that ‘needs work’ will be exposed.
Show me a defenceman in junior whose game doesn't need to improve.

You clearly haven't spent much time watching him.

Here's a video you should watch.

Just another case of Habs fans being Habs fans. No way in hell was hage ever making it this year
Because he is in the NCAA. he is far better than many of the players in camp.

Parekh is crap defensively

Canada will be favoured for gold at the World Juniors in Ottawa but their roster decisions are being debated ahead of selection camp: Canada’s Camp Roster Already Under Scrutiny Ahead of World Juniors

Do you like my lineup? What changes would you make? Should that roster be favoured for gold this year?
Good article.

Not everyone will be happy but I am going to assume Hockey Canada has a plan and knows what they are doing. And, instead of everyone complaining, look at the upside :

How the heck did we produce so many amazing prospects in such a short window of time?

First of all, this is, for most part, cyclical. and always has been. will continue to be.

producing "amazing prospects" has never been a problem in Canada. The problem arises when shitty NHL teams with idiotic GMs get their greasy mitts on them.

Sennecke not getting invited is the worst one by far. 11pts in last 2 games safe to say he’s a little bit ticked off by that
May go down as the worst Canadian WJC snub of all time.

On the other hand, this may have elevated Sennecke’s floor to a level not even the Ducks scouting staff could have even possibly expected.

If he fills out and continues to dominate how he currently is , he has top 5 league wide potential.
His hands, movement with and with out the puck, physicality, shot, and IQ is so f***ing good , not even considering his size. He has the potential to take over games and is proving it now. He’s just so elusive and creative with the puck, plays with so much much authority and confidence with the puck on his stick. You can get a sense that he’s something special when you watch him. Just goes to show how much of an old boys nepo party the sport has become. It’s so f***ing unfortunate. Shame on hockey Canada between Beckett and Yakemchuk, who I originally wanted the Ducks to take at 3

All true but you have to admit that we've had an abundance of high end prospects recently.

A lot of us that Yakemchuk was bad at the U18’s when he played, and then was really bad at the summer showcase. Didn’t look good at all
Then was the best prospect during NHL exhibition games, and looked like deserved to start the season in NHL.

Ya he was a bad omission.

Parekh is many things but he sure has all the offensive tools to help the PP. He also won best D in the CHL last year. Drafted 9th overall must have something to contribute. He looks like he is working on making changes to his game.
He set Misa up for 2 goals against Oshawa that were gifts for Mike. He played well in the MC and deserves a look bottom line. He is easy to dislike playing against him but that is hockey. He is not the 1st shit disturbing player.

Sennecke is in now too, added to the camp roster with Parekh. Brunicke is out due to injury and Cowan isn't participating but is a lock for the roster assuming he's healthy.

My two cents, they should just add Yakemchuk to the mix, what's one more body on the back end? He'd be next man up on D if any of the 10 are injured/unable to attend. I would invite him and see how he stacks up. I personally like his chances.

Some guys just kinda suck in international play. Despite it being in Ottawa this year they're using IIHF refs and some kids can't adapt. Oh and I think he's turning out into a solid pick for the Sens.

Have you followed Hage at all this season? The kid's turning out pretty fricking awesome despite being drafted by the awful Habs... LOL

I'm surprised they'd add Parekh over Yakemchuk. Neither guys are defensive stalwarts but Yak's size and physicality could be a real asset in a tournament like the WJC.

I feel like part of it has to do with it being Yak's last year eligible where as Parekh will likely be a big part of next years team. Just an assumption on my part but makes sense.

Seems like a relatively trivial benefit. The WJC can be a very physical tournament typically dominated by 19 year olds, and Parekh does not handle that well at all.

Yak is much better suited for it IMO. Even if they don't plan on playing either very much, you want your depth to be able to step in if needed.

Right but my point is that if they don’t plan on taking either of them this year Parekh is available next year as a 19 where as Yak is aging out. I am on record thinking Yak should be there btw just me thinking on why they added one over the other after the fact could see it being a factor.

You're surprised they took the CHL defenceman of the year over Yakemchuk? Interesting.

Although I think both should be there, Parekh is clearly the better player.
Yeah, Parekh is incredible soft and very poor defensively. Not the type of player I would personally add to a WJC roster.

Winning CHL defenseman is effectively given to the top scoring dman, which is made easier when you essentially play as a 4th forward on a stacked team.

Look at some of the recent winners:

Nathan Staios
Noel Hoefenmayer
Ty Smith
Ryan Sproul
Tony DeAngelo
Derrick Pouliot

Not the most prestigious list of players. They didn't originally have him on the roster, so I'm guessing Hockey Canada doesn't put a lot of weight into that award either.

You can have 7D at the World Juniors. Parekh is the perfect powerplay specialist to bring on your roster.

I don't feel that confident about anyone else on the team having the offensive ability to run the powerplay in a short tournament. Schaefer is probably next best, but he's only 17 and you don't want to heap that pressure on and underager at the WJC. Dickinson has put up a lot of points this year, but London is able to overwhelm with talent and better coaching. I don't think Dickinson is a PPQB in a short tournament with a lot of parity at the top.
