Yes, but you still have Malkin fighting with one arm tied behind his back. Instead of handicapping him, fully leverage the advantage that he and Kapanen on a 2nd line create.

(I just think that makes a lot more sense than a '4th line fix' . . . make L2 as strong as L1 and let the others just matriculate into your bottom 6)

If he does nothing it'll be one of the great wastes in recent Penguins history and will make people pine for Rutherford's boldness.

Yes, we all agree. But with Zucker and McCann out, what is Sully to do?
Bit hard to knock it in a game where Erod has a goal and drew the penalty for another and they haven’t been scored on.
More so because, again, what’s the alternative?

I’ll be right there with you when McCann is ready and Erod stays. Or when they make a trade not about that... but not now.

The difference between that first PP and second PP is the difference between wine and vinegar. I really hope Sully can clear that "protect the lead" mentality out of their heads. We are so better defensively when trying to score goals, nevermind offensively.

Also, when Jarry's on, I like him so much. Just a matter of how often he can stay on.

I do think we did a decent job of restricting some of the more dangerous chances that second period though. Other than the PP of course.

There are times Geno puts passes to places he thinks EROD should be and you wonder what would if it were another guy like Kapanen.

And that's the kicker. People hear me say 'leverage L2' and think it has to be some super all star who will break the bank, and the truth is it just needs to be the right guy.

I mean, look at Kapanen. He's not a super all star. But, he's right for Malkin, and those two together are better than the sum of parts as a result.

Find a third guy to similarly enhance that dynamic, and this team is golden.

If Kapanen can learn consistency, I think we'll start thinking of him as an all star. He is so dangerous at times.

But yes.

What are you talking about? I said EROD needs to be replaced. I said the best option is a replacement from the outside so those three can trickle into the bottom 6. Where did I say either a trade has to happen now or suggest Sullivan has an alternative at his disposal? I only ask because your entire comment is predicated on that false assumption.

Just give him Guentzel and tell Sid his job is to shutdown top lines.

That's great to hear. Based on the shots I wasn't expecting that.

I think the shot stat tonight doesn't tell the whole story. Boston is playing with desperation but lost confidence when Erod scored. The fact we ended period 1 up was insane. Period 2 we earned.

I'll be back after the game as i'm going to watch the 3rd w/o the laptop on.

But yes.

I half joked last week when someone said Kapanen was never like this in Toronto 'well, he never had Malkin in Toronto'. Sometimes, two guys just work together naturally.

What Kapanen is doing with Malkin just doesn't happen with Crosby. Not Kapanen's fault. Not Crosby's fault. Just sometimes two guys are meant to play together and sometimes they're oil and water. There's an irony in people who recognize that about Kapanen being with Crosby refusing to accept the same about Zucker and Malkin.

EDIT: That's what makes guys like Jake and Rust so special. Sid and Geno play such disparate games, but Jake and Rust can make it work really well with either of them. Guys like Kapanen or Zucker can't.

It's kind of weird that the Bruins are so reliant on 1 line when their teams have been built on scoring depth in the last decade.
