Post-Game Talk: Can we leave Stu in a California Closet?

Of course we're bad at shooting though - we practice on Skinner.

In practice we probably light the man up like a Christmas tree, then are confused why we can't score on real goaltenders.
It's no wonder why the Oilers only practice 10 mins of PP a week. That's all they need to score 100 on Skinner. He's making Podkolzin look good

How could we possibly get such a goalie though? It's not like Colorado got theirs for a goalie that was playing even worse than Skinner and 2nd round pick (what we paid for a busted Frederic).

Wait a second....
The Oilers could certainly have done a better job shopping around and comparing prices. My wife and daughter are both experts at this type of thing and wouldn't have demanded big bucks to do it for them.

Yeah. Kings are doing a lot of what I said teams should do against Skinner.

1) lots of east west passing schemes to exploit movement

2) Use of shot passes that simply blow up Skinner (Nucks found the gravy)

3Active screens that destroy Skinners limited tracking. So that he just sits in butterfly and hopes a shot hits him

4) I lol that the Kings even deployed the purposeful backboards pass. Something I said teams should be doing for years. Skinner is completely lost at pucks bumping back from boards.

A couple others are wraps and rebound passes. So much you can do to exploit Skinner. Of course ability to pick some corners also requisite.
Did you see Kuzmenko mouth the words "make him move" yesterday? I had a good chuckle.

Your point number 4- I said it last year against Florida- Skinner was horrendous at pucks being moved from back to front. There was a play in the finals where the puck went behind the net- a Florida player and Ceci were fighting for it- I was praying Ceci would win the battle because if he didnt- it was a goal. Sure enough, Ceci lost the puck battle, puck went from behind the net to the front- in the net. I think Woodley called out that play. No awareness of the danger ares by Skinner.

Nailed it. He's also just 25 years old- hasn't even hit his prime. Set a playoff scoring record for a Dman. One of the best puck movers in the game. Successfully exiting the zone, neutral zone transition, zone denials are also characteristics of playing defence.
Our team is configured to run on transition, pucks out, puck possession and dominating in offensive zone. We had the weapons to do that. Somehow the org went a different way, lost tons of transition players, speed, and now we're left with older forwards that have trouble completing the picture. Booch is ideal for a quick club that can won rushes and own pucks. He's very good at finding guys, skating pucks out, supporting offense and cycle. One reason Ekholms works so well is the complimenting of our game, and the pairing. Ekholm can be the solid stay at home guy Thats a bull clearing trafic and finding booch for outs.

But now we more and more have a forward groupl losing pucks because Nuge, Hyman, Skinner have all regressed, we had a whole season of no Kane and we haven't supplemented our lineup appreciably. The problem isn't just on D, its on our puck retension. jmo

But Ekholm being out is a key piece. We knew that. The hope was Nurse and Walman and D like that would be able to ease that loss. But Ekholm is a solid shutdown D that was a bit unique in the lineup.

I wonder how much Foegele told them about our team gameplan and Skinner.

Shouldn't be needed as its been easy enough for any of us to spot the flaws. What is evident is under newer coaching they understood the wrinkles and went hard in the film room. Always thought McLellan was an overrated and limited coach. He sure didn't get Kings exploiting as well. Last playoffs was kind of outlier as the Kings team had struggled much of the backhalf and needed a coach bump just to get to playoffs.

I questioned whether the current Kings coaching could get it done but it really is the best prepared Kings club we've faced. They've definitely gone to school on Skinner and the Oilers schemes.

The difference as well is this season the Kings don't have to forcefeed limited scrubs like Arvid or Moore into topsix. They have adequately sized forwards now that can all play topsix and be top weapons. Getting Byfield finally at his game and getting Kuzmenko has been huge for them. The Kings, Kopitar, Kempe, they always knew what to do to exploit our goaltending, but they didn't have enough other forwards to work the passing plays well enough and consistently enough to do it.

Man watching Arvidsson then looking over at LA and seeing Foegle outskate, outhit, outsize him stings. We basically swapped. LA laughing to the bank.

Jeez, Gage on EST is saying that he’s gotten pulled like that before and it was to get him out so he can come back fresher and play the next game.

I think our fans will riot if Skinner starts game 3.
Judging from ticket prices going down some fans have taken a different approach.

Any club with McDrai on it are always dangerous. See what happens. But I sure wouldn't be spending hundreds on tickets myself.

I think if Skinner starts in game 3 we have more than fans to worry about. Would be like the real wrong message to McD and Drai particularly who have expressed their views.

Getting more Stewed Skinner would be damaging to morale of all.

I like Gage, but he has zero authority to speak on Skinner after he said Skinner has elite puck tracking.

Like, what a goof. This guy was an actual goalie too. Not a good one. Maybe that's why he believes that lol

I hope to god that it is not a sellout tomorrow.

Gretzky would have retired Skinner by now. Yeah I see your point and raise glasses to it. Its as if he's somebody that doesn't shoulder check when driving...too much effort.

Skinner: " Somethings happening back there, I'm scared to look"

Its why ANYTHING emanating from behind the net works on Skinner. Bumper pass shots, wraps, tortillas, salsa, passes from behind, backpasses from behind. haha

Could you see this dope even surviving against Mess-Anderson!

Well they told Jackson we would be small upfront when it came to signing both Arvdisson and Skinner, he didn't care.

It wasn't long ago that I had to argue with people on here who thought that notion was insane. Makes perfect sense to me. What gets by Skinner gets stopped by 80-90% of NHL goalies. Practicing on him lowers our skaters' expectations of what an effective shot actually is. Toss in a coach who kills chemistry, and we have a recipe for futility for all but the two greatest players of our generation.

Remember how Grant Fuhr put up Vezina-candidate numbers in his rookie season and was even more impressive than Skinner was in his first year? And then the very next season Fuhr found himself doing time in the AHL because he was playing like shit? Yeah, I don't think Slats would've suffered Skinner for very long either.
